Want to Switch from Mini Maxx to EFI Live

Hey guys, I have been browsing through older posts to the find an answer, but I haven't stumbled across a direct answer for my question. I am currently running a 2008 DPF deleted and stealth deleted ERG 6.7l ( everything else stock with exception of CAI). I'd like to switch out my mini Maxx for EFI Live mainly due to wanting data logging and I have heard nothing but success stories with EFI live. In addition, I plan to grow some more horsepower over time and want the room to expand. My question is...if I order an EFI package (flashscan w/ cummins tuning) from a EFI distributor (say Anarchy) will it have a pre-installed base file for use with deletes (and without - for worse case scenario of inspection) that I can instantly run on my truck out of the box and/or to build upon with the EFI software, or will I need to get a tuner to write something up for me. Also, what would the implications be in converting directly over from the mini Maxx to EFI live (I.e. Would I have to return the truck to stock by putting the equipment back on, flashing the truck back to stock, and then flash with EFI followed by re-removal of the "junk"or can I just revert to stock from the H&S unit and immediately run the EFI program? I currently have a 5" turbo back exhaust with no bungs for use with the mini Maxx...does EFI live need the bungs for the original O2 and temp sensors? My final question is what is the learning curve associate with EFI live? I messed with MCC a bit but haven't had the time to get really involved...Again I apologize if this has been addressed, but like I said I couldn't find a direct answer. Thanks for the help everyone...looking forward to the responses.

We're an Anarchy dealer, you can keep everything as is just detune your truck back to stock and then retune with the Anarchy autocal and your good to go.

Let me know if you have an more questions.

Thanks

I have no experience at all with EFI live, so is it safe to say that there are pre-installed tunes that I can start with if I order a flashscan in place of the autocal? Will the flash scan do the same things as the autocal and can the files normally installed on the autocal be sent to the ECM using the flashscan? The reason I am wanting a flashscan is that I am a hands on guy and I really want to end up doing my own tuning for my type of driving.

I also want the ability to view what I'll be sending to my truck. I'm an engineer so I get stuck in the details haha. Thanks for the help.

I would be sure to request a full OS flash from your tuner as your truck has been tuned before.

The Autocal come preloaded with 4 custom tunes and one stock tune. The V2 would come with a starter tune that you can play with to get you kicked off.

If your wanting to do your own tuning you'd be better off with the V2, it also comes with 2 VIN licences.

Good point
What does a full os flash entail? I don't believe I have heard that before. Does the starter tune on the flash scan allow for deletes? Could one possibly pay for a custom tune that would normally be on the autocal and have it put on the flashscan or are those tunes proprietary to the tuner?

You can get the same tunes for the V2 that come on the autocal. The starter tune is unlocked so you can see the changes we make. All other tunes will be locked from viewing.

OS = operating system.

The popular aftermarket tuners (Smarty, H&S, etc.) do not put a true factory flash on the truck. It may run exactly the same, but the file isn't exact, so you often get a checksum error when scanning the computer after being returned to stock by one of these tuners.

An OS flash means you're completely reprogramming the ECM with a COMPLETE "clean" (correct/valid checksum) program vs. scanning and modifying what is on the ECM.

Please forgive my ignorance if Autocals come with full flashes as I have only ever used a V2 :eek:
Cummins ECMs get "full flashed" everytime, there is no option for cal flashing them like a duramax. This means that you do not have to put a clean stock file in the truck first. The tuner completely erases the old program and installs a new one every time. it is the same way with the V2 or autocal.
good to know! I'll just crawl back into my little corner now :eek:
you can keep everything as is just detune your truck back to stock.
