I just replaced the vp44 and the truck ran good. Then 4 days after chaange the truck sorta missed when i got on the petal to merge into traffic. I went from 18 mpg to 13 mpg. I went to advanced auto ran codes and they were p1688 p1689 we reset the codes and they came back. I took it to the shop that put the pump on and they say its not throwing those codes any more. I told them to drive it and then check to see if it will come back. These guys are honest and do a good job. It just pussels me as to what it could be. Do you guys have any suggestions?:$:

did you change out the lift pump also??
here is the codes for that

P1688
Internal Fuel Injection Pump Controller Failure

P1689
No Communication Between ECM & Injection Pump Module

I'd start checking all grounds and connections.....it may be a bad VP
Id definatly take apart the connections and clean them with cleaner then try it again.
Usually 1688 and 1689 codes are telling you there is communication problem or the computer on the VP44 dieing...

Unless...

The ECM is having problems???
how much did u pay for the injector pump?
I did just have the punp put in. He charged 1200 for the pump and he did some other things to my truck it ended up costing me 1500. He put the sterring wheel stabilzer shock on and the pump. He is now checking connections but i had alredy done that. I think it was a bad vp44. He said the other day the code did not come back after he cleared it. I told him to drive it a littlr and try agin because i dropped from 18 mpg to 13 something is wrong.I thought that loosing mpg was a sigmn of bad pump. Thanks for the input.
I forgot to mention that I did change out the lift pump. It is now a pusher pump with vulcan big line relocate kit. I changed it about 2 weeks ago with a new campain pump.
Thanks
sounds like you have a bad pump....for $1200 they did not replace everything in the pump...they only fixed what was broken.....from what i was told the cost on parts to rebuild a complete VP44 (top to bottom) is more then $1200
