My dad has a 2002 24 valve 5sp. It has an Edge comp box on it and he never runs it above stage 2/2. Lately when he is in the higher gears (4 and 5) and he is really asking it for fuel, it cuts out on him. It doesn't die but it loses all power until he shifts down. Once he shifts down it takes off and runs fine again. Could this be the fuel pump going out? I hear these pumps don't have a great reputation. Any info would really help. Thanks.

It sounds like your lift pump it's keep up with the demand for fuel.

It's gone for 60k miles with no problem. It just started doing it lately. Do you still think its the lift pump? I hope so, cheaper fix.

have him check for codes by doing the key trick... key on, key off, key on, key off, key on and leave it there... word to the wise, codes do not always appear by this method

codes should be displayed in the odometer...

i had this exact thing happen to me about 6 months ago, all of the sudden when you give it skinny pedel it will go to the floor but very little to no power, i was stupid and 400 miles from home so i kept driving, im guessing this is the lift pump going out, i never checked trying to make it home and eventually it got the vp44, i hope your dad will have a guage put on it before his repair bill goes way up, also when you set the cruise you can feel and hear a faint "surge" from within the motor like its.....well trying to keep up but dosent have enough fuel,,,long and short, get a guage on it if you want to make sure, but ill bet ya a hundred dollar bill its at least the lift pump, and hopefully he hasent trashed the vp yet

Thanks for the suggestions guys! We will probably pull the LP today and check it out. I've been tryin to get him to put an exhaust on it for years. Hasn't done it yet. Oh well, I just hope the VP is still kickin.

I'm pretty positive he won't be doing any more mods, so would it be beneficial to go with a stock LP or will it just do it again down the road?

from what i gather it will do it again maybe 10k miles maybe 100k miles, but if you are lucky enough to save the injection pump this time, i wouldnt roll the dice twice, go ahead and get an air dog or raptor or fass

100% Correct!! don't risk it, and like Mopar1973Man once said...." The only place for the stock LP is the TRASH CAN" those things are junk! go with what smithwr said or if on the budget go with a holley!:thumbsup

It is better to push fuel than pull it

You can bet on replacing stock LP after stock LP, they're junk... all of them..

getcha an airdog from gus and never worry about it again...
