My 99 has a new lift pump, new injectors, new clutch and running a 65 hp ez chip .. with 300,000 miles have been expecting the injection pump to go ... today it hiccuped, or dead pedaled or whatever, but lost power or surged for about a quarter mile while accelerating normal ... then has been running fine ... any ideas, I've gone through so many threads I'm not sure what it is ... No code was thrown but check engine has been on for a couple years

friend that read codes today said it was something related to the drivetrain, speedometer hasn't been working correctly for at least 3 years ... once you reach a certain speed it will work ... I'm baffled, I really thot the injection pump was going out when it did its thing today ... but I just made two trips hauling some cows to the auction and it ran fine. Not sure what the power failure or dead pedal thing was today ... any ideas anyone

you might be right ... but it is a strong runner ... have been expecting the injection pump to go out long before this ... have almost replaced it just to save it happening on the side of the road ... I plan on keeping it ... it just runs too good for the money it would cost to replace it ...

Do you still have the error code numbers? We might be able to fix these problems but we are going to need more information about the error codes...:w:

Have you tried replacing the sensor on the top of the axle?
I only heard of one time that a tone ring in the rear coming apart... But the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) I heard of a few that the sensor came apart inside the diff...:w:

I'm talking about the VSS sensor. Only way I could see the tone ring getting damaged is if you damage something in the rear end.

Had the codes checked ... 1693 was thrown. Unhooked the EZ chip, it's been on for about 200,000 miles ... surge and dead pedal has stopped so far ... thinking about getting the edge juice w/attitude ... original injection pump is still probably soon to fail, but seems to be fine now. Any thots ?

From my past experience the spped issue is the sensor on the top of the rear diff housing going bad. I think they are about $60 and are a dealer item only. They also affect the way the trans shifts which may be giving you the power failure/dead pedal thing. I was having a no/hard start issue when it was cold outside a few years back when I had a Superchips programmer installed. I took the programmer off and the truck would fire right up. I blamed the programmer and got my money back from Superchips, not too much hassle. I ended up installing my Edge Comp box and the VP lasted about 32hrs before it grenaded. My opinion, the dead pedal is a sign the VP is on it's last leg. I'd try the sensor first it's cheaper and if it's not it at least you got the speedo issue fixed:thumbsup.

Lake Huron ... thanks ... will try the speedo sensor ... would be nice to have it working ... you might be right on the VP being next ... but its due ... EZ must have been part of the problem ... only have about 40 miles since unhooking it ... and no more dead pedal problems, but fully aware that I'm overdue for a new injection pump

P1693 Error code means that there is more codes present in either PCM and/or ECM controllers... So re-scan for eror codes and find the other code(s)...
