VP or lift pump not keeping up

683 Views 7 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  jdawson506
I'm having an issue with my truck shuttering and bucking only in 5th and 6th gear. It does it on all setting with the comp box on but not when it's off. The clutch is slipping so I know that needs to be replaced. I replaced the intake manifold gaskets because they were torn but that didn't help. Any ideas on what it could be?? Just hoping it's not the VP.

What's your fuel pressure when it starts bucking?
It drops down to about 14psi. It's set at 17psi. It's an Air Dog 1
I know with the 150 sticks and the comp box it fuels hard thats why I'm thinking it could just be the lift pump not being able to supply the injectors

If the lift pump wasn't keeping up you should see a noticible drop in fuel pressure.
Could it just be the clutch trying to grab there's just not enough left?
Its possible.

Usually when I've had clutches go they just start to slip under load, but weirder things can happen I'm sure.
This one has me stumped. Just really don't want to travel the new VP route
