ok iam an old school diesel mechanic ( tractors and older marine engines ) why is it so hard to keep a vp44 pump working ... seems like it makes no difference old ,new, rebuilt ... is it really that hard to rebuild one the right way ... are they that much more complex ... is the electronics that quit .. or the mechanical seals .. why do some pumps run for 150 k on a new truck ... and only 5 k on a new replacement .. i know the new fuel ..has very little lubrication .. has got to be an answer ..other than p pump replacement

AirDog 100, 150, or 165

Raptor 100 or 150

FASS 100 or 150
FASS DDRP (DDRP Ver.2 - 89 GPH)

I don't suggest these pumps... Because they don't address the pump location, plumbing restrictions, or come with much of warranty.

Stock Carter or Carter Campaign Pump (4090046)

Holley Blue or Holley Black

FASS DDRP (DDRP Ver.1 - 40 GPH)

AirTex

And those were quoted from here: Mopar1973Man's Dodge Cummins Articles - Fuel Pressure Specification For Bosch VP44 Injection Pumps

If money wasn't a factor, I would get an Airdog 150. (just my personal opinion) But any of the 4 pumps mentioned at the top would be good.

Once you get a new LP, you're ready for other mods.
What are your plans for the truck, as far as better MPG's, etc?

Buy a mechanical lift pump like a Fuel Boss or DT's Assassin fuel pump. Last lift pump you'll ever buy, and won't leave you stranded like the electric ones. Also have interchangeable cogs so you can change your fuel psi.

tired of toy trucks

i had a 2002 4x4 2500 .sold it .. bought a 2000 2wd needs a new pump .. i just want stock or better with the best MPG i can get. daily driver .. once in a while boat hauler.. i mean ford ranger gets 20 mpg max and if you take it out of overdrive to tow it gets 12 or 14 mpg . so i hope to drive a real truck again and get 18 to 20 mpg ... am i dreaming

Shoot no. Just don't drive over 65 and go easy on the skinny pedal, and you can get 20 mpg.

Do you have 4.10's or 3.55's in the rear?
