The problem is controlling them. There is a "Fleece" controller which is a bit spendy & has mixed reviews. There is a guy on www.4btswaps.com by the handle "Steed". He is doing a CANbus controlled unit that you define & he programs. There are also funky pneumatic cylinder setups out there, too. I think there may also be a spring controlled one out there. The issue is actuating the exhaust brake feature, controlling the boost how you want & also having a good cruise boost for good MPGs. Do some googling & you will find all sorts of info & come back thoroughly confused...
Yea I was just wondering cause I know they can increase fuel efficiemcy and have a lot faster spool. If you can get it to run right. Is it the vanes that are hard to control? Also I've heard on the vgt the cam rings will seize up and not fully adjust
There was a software update on the Rams that cycles the vanes open to closed every start cycle. It takes alot of tweaking to get it right wether using boost, spring or electronic control. Just google "HE351VGT controls " & you will get most of the answers you need. I am just relaying what I have read. Most of the people that did them are on the 12 valve trucks.
