I've been shopping for a 2014 3500 SRW and I may have found what I'm looking for but it's several states east of Ca, where I live.

I'm trying to figure out if it's cheaper to fly and drive it back (lodging, meals, fuel) or just have a hotshot bring it to me.

What's the going rate per mile for vehicle deliveries via Hotshot?

I will never get a company to ship a vehicle again. Got my Zr1 shipped from Houston to Canada. Took 3 months and had about 4k of damage.
In order to get an accurate answer I'm sure you would need to know the miles. Several states away mean jack sheit

To each their own as always, I am a value shopper, and when I ordered my truck from Vernon Auto, I priced flying out and driving back, (man hours, ticket, fuel back, the whole nine yards) and they shipped it to me well cheaper, and I got it faster than if I'd flown out to get it. No scratches, more importantly no Miles, and the guys almost brought it to my door step, except they couldn't get down my road, so I met him in town, and they delivered a day earlier than expected, as they ran team instead of single driver service.

You are probably looking at >$1.00/mile. Go to uship.com and get some bids then decide. You always risk damage to your truck no matter what you do. Someone could hit you pulling out of the dealer's lot. Just make sure they have adequate insurance and check the BBB before committing to anything.

When we bought the wifes truck we flew from Ky to NJ and picked it up ($550 Louisville to Newark) then drove it back stopping at Hersey,Pa - Getysburg and New River Gorge,WV, made a mini vacation out of the trip and spent around $1000 for everything. Air fare, fuel, food, room and souvenirs.

Mine and and another resident here had our 2007's shipped from Dave Smith to San Diego for $900 each. This was in late '06. The trucks arrived a bit dirty,of course, but unscathed. The driver couldn't have been more professional and courteous. The distance was 1400 miles. The truck arrived w/14 miles.
I spoke to a guy in Big Sur last week. When he bought his 2012 from them, they flew him and his wife up,bought them a room, and still discounted the vehicle substantially. All accessories including 5th wheel hitch were installed correctly. If I were to do it again though,I'd drive it back.

I've done motorcycles this way. Flew out and rode them back making it a mini vacation getaway.
