I recently found out my pumps throttle shaft was leaking pretty heavily. I got the bosch reseal kit and it was suggested that I put a new throttle shaft bushing in. I've read the stickys but do not recall the brass bushing install being shown. I'm also a bit nervous about damageing the pump top.

Can anyone give me some tips on removing the old bushing and installing the new one? Can I just use a vice to press it out? To press the new one in?

Thanks

From what i've heard the bushing is epoxied in, if you have a pump rebuild shop close by you could take it to them and they would replace it.

Have you taken the bad "O" ring off the shaft and put the shaft back in the bushing to see if there is to much wear?

What do you have to loose other than time and a couple drops of fuel? Put some oil or grease on the "O" ring to make sure it's lubed.

I had to do the same exact thing to my truck. I just took the pump top of and put a new O ring on it and that took care of the problem. Just make sure that you don't break the throttle shaft getting that big brass nut off the top of throttle levers and springs.

My bushing was horribly bad. Did it with c clamp, sockets, punch, 2x4 and maybe hammer in 5 minutes. Put wood on bottom of pump top, clamp or vice on bushing. Push flush. Think I used punch and hammer to tap rest the way out. Put large socket on backside for install. Believe I put rubber mallet between bushing and clamp for install.

All right, I didnt' put it back together yesterday because the bushing has a pretty good grove worn in it and I don't wanna do this twice. I talked to a local pump shop and was told to use a bit of thread locker on the outside of the bushing when pressing it in.
Also got a new throttle shaft and breakover spring.

ETA: cleaningthe cracked/flaking paint of the IP is a giagantic PITA.
