Would it be worth it to do a VB update to my old 12V auto before I did a torque converter update? If I am correct all a VB kit will do is raise line pressure, right? If so, what brand of shift kit should I look at? There appear to be MANY choices. Why is a $300 kit so much better than a $70 kit?

The biggest difference between the shift kits that are $70 and the more expensive ones like DTT's is that the DTT kits are custom built per application. DTT also offers evening and weekend tech support phone numbers which is great because they can sometimes give you a little snag, that a tech guy can talk you through no waiting til monday or anything like that. But even the DTT unit is only around $200.

:agree2: ive done a vb kit before and you def want the tech line to help out.

i just ordered my kit from dtt. after looking into all the other ones, dtt was the only logical choice for me. why get a off the shelf kit when i can get one for MY needs. and even then with a $70 kit theres a lot of other stuff that you would have to buy with the kit, like a billet band strut, divider plate (trust me, you dont want to have to drill and plug yours) ect.... after spending $70 for the kit, having crappy instructions and no help, buying all the other bs parts that they dont include that are needed it was a easy choice for me.

good luck with whatever kit you choose.

and x2 on doing the vb first, thats what im doing.

does the dtt kit come with any kind of instructions? I'm looking into one too, but I'm doing the TC/input shaft first (since they are most expensive). Then the truck will sit for about a month because of work, and I'll have time to do the VB.

I haven't personally seen one, but I'm sure it comes with some pretty detailed instructions. If you've never been in a valve body it can be a little scary the first time. Lots of valves, springs, screws and a divider plate can be somewhat overwhelming. You may even need the tech help just to remove yours. The parking cog rod can be a bear also.

BD VB come with the best instructions Ive seen. Its more important to have an extra set of hands than it is to have a tech line. Its very straight forward with illustrations, youll need to check your line pressure before you begin (oil pressure gauge from Harbour Freight works fine). No sense in putting a VB in a tranny with a shot pump. Plan on doing a band adjustment, which is also covered in depth in the BD kit.

it actually looks like they went down a bit in price since I got it. You send your core back and get $100.

where can I look at a BD VB kit?
in the dumpster :hehe::hehe: there vb's only make 100psi of line pressure. all the ones ive ever seen that are worth a crap are over 150 at wot. ive done some before, and there is a lot of small dumb stuff that the dtt kit eliminates and takes care of for you. i put in a gorends years ago and i bet i spent 6hrs on the phone, the little intricate pieces were the worst!! thats the reason i went with dtt, most of that is done when the kit gets there. have you called around and talked to the different vendors? sift through the bull s*** and you will know which one to go with. my choice was dtt because the simple install, great support, and downright great people, make sure you call em all tho, that way you dont have any doubts on your choice. ive heard a lot of horror stories about ats, bd, and some other guy out there, so shop wisely:thumbsup:

my kit will be here this week and if you want, ill video it on a dvd, and send it to you for ya to see what all is entailed with the "kit" and see if its something you want to pursue.

I would give Trans-go a try. I have installed more than a few of them and yet to have any problems.. They have been in business for years. They run around $80.00-100.00. And just get the shift improver kit.

I'm looking for more than a shift kit though. I'm being told that the dtt kit will be the same as getting a new aftermarket VB, except you do it yourself.

yeah make a DVD, I could use a laugh.

and whats to laugh about bud? i was just saying that id video what all was involved with putting a dtt kit together, i looked into the trans go kit, and its a ok kit, but a dtt has all the RIGHT parts... this was just to show how involved and in depth the dtt kit was, from one guy to another, not for you to be a a$$ about. i bet you just feel like a bad just because you spent $600 on a kit and think you own the world huh? i wasnt bashing anybody or any product, just giving my opinion. if you dont like tha fact i was offering a guy help, find another thread to bash.

send me your email adress and ill get you a dvd as soon as i finish the kit this week.
