Greetings all,

Part of my vacuum pump, the lower diaphram and housing fell off. Power steering is working fine but no power brakes without vacuum

I'm not having luck in finding a used vacuum pump/PS pump assembly.

I see that some of the later trucks use an electric vacuum pump for the brakes - costing under $100.

Has anyone tried something like that?

Of course if someone knows a source for a used VP/PS assembly - that would be great!

Ideas? All help appreciated.

Regards,

John in Houston

Those later trucks using the electric pumps do not use them for brakes. That electric pump is for heater controlls. The brakes are hydro boost using power steering pressure.

Electric's most likely do not have enough recovery rate to work a brake booster.

I know the old 7.3 and 6.9 fords use a belt driven vac pump, not sure if it pumps enough for brakes though

7.3 and 6.9 and OBS PowerStrokes all use belt driven vacuum pumps, and yes they do run the brake booster.
