Anyone try these or have opinion? Just released in last few months, These are designated “DT” for different tread compound for heavier trucks. My defenders are about done at 22,000 miles and I need a replacement. I tow a travel trailer 40% with 1000 pounds on weight dist hitch-2017 Ram 2500 crew.
Thanks

“All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires labeled "DT" utilize a different tread compound designed to improve wear in high-torque applications and improved chip and tear resistance in gravel. Tires featuring this compound carry a 50,000-Mile Treadwear Warranty and are NOT branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol.”

Why do you keep buying these crappy DW prone tires instead of a solid known performance tire for these trucks?? There so many better tires for a heavy truck that tows, utterly insane to keep purchasing under rated under IMPORTANT items likes.

Let's talk a little about what tires your truck actually needs.

Since the factory tires on the 2017 2500 vary in size. Best bet is to check the owners manual for your correct tire.

I'll use my truck as an example. The factory 20" tires from Firestone are a joke, here are the ratings.

Size = LT285/60R20
Load = 125/122R E
Speed rating = R (106mph)
Max weight per tire @ 80psi = 3,640lbs

According to the load index chart, a load of 125 = 3638lbs, so the manufacturer is accurately rating their tires.

In order to install a proper tire, you want to ensure the weight AND load rating is of the manufacture spec or higher, in my case E (10ply) with 125 or higher.

The speed rating is not as important unless you plan on driving at the max speed, which my lumbering truck while towing my trailer is not likely to ever hit.

For instance, if I wanted to replace the stock with a set of BFG KO2's, these are the specs. Same as factory with a slight faster speed.

Size: LT285/60R20
Load Range: E
Serv. Desc: 125/122S
UTQG: None

The ridge grapplers I installed as a +1 tire (35") are rated higher than factory for the load but lower than factory for the max speed.

LT295/65R20
129/126Q E BSW

If I wanted the plus 1 AND faster speed, I'd have to go to the AT2

LT295/65R20
129/126S E BSW

Hope this helps

What would be your suggestion fine sir?
Cooper Discoverer for AT, Cooper STT Pro for MT. So far about the best match for price and wear I have found. MT in Toyo and Nitto are also good, the AT's not so much.

Tire specs can only tell so much. By the specs the BFG should be adequate but they never hold up. Look at the tire weight, your better tires will be consistently heavier. That is the big difference under these trucks, the sidewalls retain their strength much better on the Cooper, Toyo, and Nitto.

Yes, I took the factory tires off at 9500 miles and bought the defenders. The factory tires were abysmal for sure! I consider this new KO2 to be a third gen tire as they specifically altered the composition for heavier, high torque trucks. I imagine they knew they were losing market share, I will see how it goes and let you know. I bought the set Monday. Thanks for a constructive post!

I just put a set on my rig.
Through Costco.
I don't think they are like yours.
As in compound.
We'll see I'm waiting on Mr.Winter to show his face up here in the northwest ..
I should have 2ft of snow about now

Idk I could never put a set of coopers on a vehicle I own after my last set of them on my old truck, swapped them out for Big's ko2 and was more than happy. However hit or miss reviews on heavier trucks kept me from going with them on this truck glad to see they are working on tire compounds to fix it. I wanted an M/T this time but maybe my next set will be the ko2 if the new rubber lasts longer

Which coopers did you have? My ST Maxxs have done great and plan on going with another set in a month or two. I use to run the BFG KOs on my gas F250 and they did ok for that truck. Ofcourse it was much lighter then my current truck.

Maybe they got the compound right finally. Performance wise here in the PNW the Maxxs outperform them in every situation Ive put em thru. Just my personal experience.

Cooper Discoverer Rtx is what comes to mind, I had nitto Terra's before that were great and bfgs after. I'm hard on tires but I got around 20k out of them.

Those are special made tires for certain distributors, not indicative of the HD line. S\T Max and STT Pro are excellent tires with long wear tendencies and rated for our trucks.

Well they lost me as a customer for life with them tires. I think I would try another firestone over them and the stockers that came on this truck were bad.

Wait a minute??? You bought a set of cheap SUV tires for an HD truck and this is who's fault? Maybe you have gripe with the retailer that sold them to you but surely not Cooper. A little research would have shown car tires are not a good match for trucks.

Never said they went on a HD truck, they went on a gmc sierra. Had nothing to do with the retailer, had all to due with the fact the tires sucked and cooper produced them.

Had EVERYTHING to do with the retailer, NOT Cooper. That specific tire was a special build to spec for specific retailers.

Just like you cannot go back to Cummins for warranty or responsibility on Dodge platform engines, you cannot hold Cooper responsible for a special run to spec for a subset of their customers.

Fact remains the Discover line is pretty good. The S\T and STT Pro are top of the line tires regardless of ANYTHING else Cooper manufacturers.
