So I've been reading different threads about people doing mods strictly to increase the reliability and longevity of their 3rd gens. What I want to hear is what your guy's setups are, why you set your trucks up like you did, and how its worked out for you. Don't want to start a war over whose trucks better than whose, just wanting to learn more and see whats out there:party018:

Simple start...

Upgrade the fuel filtration, and perform regular preventive maintenance.
Climb in and under your truck and get to know it ,
while checking for leaks and such.
Do all your own work if at all possible.

Longevity

Most of my knowledge came from reading this forum, friends that are Cummins owners and the service manual. Installed the Amsoil motor oil by-pass kit, the AirDog fuel pump with water seperator and fuel filter, and the A-Pillar three gauge setup using isspro's pyro, boost, and trans. gauges for monitoring when pulling my RV. Plan on some additional fuel gauges in the future. Change all fluids and grease everything I can when needed and keep your ears open for the water pump, it starts to growl a bit when its going bad. If you can do all your own wrenching, you'll save money for other goodies to keep your investment running properly. Good Luck!!!

All of the above.
Fuel filtration, oil and oil filtration, Air filtration, gauges for monitoring temps.
Regular maint., address any problems immediately and last but not least NEVER raise the rail pressure (RP)!
