Turbo choices

Ok so I'm looking to add a little power to my truck. With my current mods which would be a better choice a bigger turbo or programmer? I'm clueless when it comes to turbo as there are so many options out there!!

A turbo. Adding more fuel without more air IE: tuner, will start to get pretty hot.

Call Jacob at DAP and talk to him. He will help you out with is vast insight into this kind of stuff.
IMO you would enjoy a tuner a lot more...
he's already got 100 hp injectors. It won't take much of a programmer to fuel more than the hx35 is able to handle. I would add air then add a tuner.

I guess it really depends on his end goal.
Hmm I just don't want to get too "big" of a turbo so I just don't know how to pick the right size (66mm? 72mm? Ect) tuner wise I'm thinking edge comp or juice but a lot of people like the smarty....just looking for more get up and go. Don't need top end or dyno numbers just chasing ricers off the line haha
Yes, I understand but I'm saying he would enjoy the tuner depending on what he gets. I got a tuner and injectors which I love.
Exactly what I mean by get up at go. You would enjoy a tuner much more especially with those sticks, a 66m or 72m would be way to big for you.
A Super B is what you'd want. The Comp would be a fine choice if you aren't worried about gauges. Extra $400 for some gauges, not something I'd do but up to you.

I'd go tuner. But Go with either edge. Not the smarty, it has nice throttle response but you'll get more power, adjustability, alerts etc from the edge. Especially the juice.
Just keep it turned down and watch your egt's.
Then when your ready, a bd super b (57/65/14) or dtech (62/65/12) would both be perfect turbo's for edge and 100 injectors. You'd have a great 400 hp daily driver that'll still tow and do anything else you want.

I just purchased and installed a set of isspro gauges. The juice is just nice to me bc of the on screen display and ease of switching levels of performance. With the comp where do you put the box with access to change levels? That's what confuses me about the comp there is really no mounting options to have the buttons at the tips of your fingers at all times
he won't be able to use the fuel that injectors and an edge comp and deliver with the stock hx turbo.

Call Jacob explain your goals and go from there. There are a million different turbos. More than one will fit your needs. Adding a tuner will help even more then.

In my mind using only %20 of what your tuner can do is a waste of money. Since you are limited by your current turbo that is what you would be doing. You will want/need a turbo and tuner at some point regardless.

Smarty in my mind isn't worth the money. an edge comp is much better spent money.

I can't get my egts over 850 as she sits
You need a tuner so you can get more timing out of your injection pump. Has far as turbo with 100hp I would go with a super b single(57/65/14. It may still get just a little hot cause 100hp are pushing it for that charger but anything really big will have more lag.

I would go with a phat shaft(62/65/12) over a dtech but that my .02

Edge comp is what you'd like, HOT unlock even better.
If he goes turbo first, (unless he gets a he351 or hx35/40 hybrid) he's gonna have little fuel to spool it and run it well. Then he'll be NEEDING more fuel to run well.
However going with tuner first. He can easily run on stage 1x1, not over fuel the hx, use his right foot to drive it right, then when the turbo goes in just reach up and beep beep beep. More fuel for it. Who uses 100 percent of what a chip offers all the time anyway. Personally I leave mine on stage 1, then if I'm gonna get on it, I turn it up.
And in the mean time have all the other extra's something like the juice offers ie turbo timer, high boost high egt low fuel psi back downs, cold engine protection, boost fooling.

Impo, I'd rather control air to fuel ratio and egt's with my right foot and chip settings, then have an abundance of air with inadequate fueling to mix with it. Just my .02

He'll be running cool with the super b and 100's no chip I ran super b 150's and edge juice for 2 years and only time it ever got hot was last half of quarter mile. Dd and towing were perfect with the chip even on 3 let alone 1.
But yes I agree, anything bigger with no chip, will just not be enough fuel

Haha I mean, flooring it every light, every where, every drive? Sure I drove all the time on 5x5 back in the day, but daily driving even with the chip turned up, your still only using half throttle most of the time.
running 150hps with a 57 is the same as running with a hx and 100hp.. get a tuner first trust me. If you would like to talk a little more feel free to call Dieselautopower.com and ask for Shaw.
