Tstat Housing Leak

1144 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  W350_1992
So I developed a slight leak from what appears to be the bottom of the Tstat housing or the spacer between the housing and the block. I've "fixed" it twice and it's still leaking--slower but still leaking nonetheless. The first repair I bought a new Tstat and gasket. The second repair I bought some RTV waterpump and Tstat housing silicone, coated the exterior of the gasket and all of the metal connections.

I don't think that this is a head gasket. The leak appears be originating lower that where I would expect to find a head gasket leak.

Any tips?

The thermostat section is higher than the head gasket. If it seems lower than the head gasket, why would you assume that it is the thermostat gasket?
I'm sorry. That's not what I meant....I've been awake for a good 30 hours. The head gasket is lower than the origin of the leak which is why I don't expect it to be a head gasket.
The only gasket that I know of is the round rubber one that goes inside the housing. Did you replace it when you put your new T-stat in?
That I did.
What part numbers are u using?

I had problems with the t-stat housing leaking on my truck, after replacing the seal a few times I ended up using some tar looking sealant.

Btw the only new cummins brand seals that I used looked slightly different than the original.
