No issue with the truck right now, but would like to hear from those who had it done.
Any improvement? Any problems?

I had it done a couple months ago...truck runs alot smoother. It quit on me at a busy intersection, I got it started long enough to get it to the dealership. I'd do it for sure.

Flash: 5.9L Turbo-Diesel engine system enhancements
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 5.9L Turbo Diesel engine (sales codes ETC and ETH respectively). The bulletin supersedes 18-022-06 dated 07/13/06. The following enhancements are included with this software update:

* Improved engine cooling (radiator fan activation) and prevention of possible engine overheat. When coolant temperature faults are present the radiator fan is enabled (turned on) during vehicle operation.
* Correction to oil pressure reading when engine is operating at higher engine temperatures above 195°F.
* Improvement to the Temperature Sensor Rationality Test to prevent possible false test failures and their following related diagnostic trouble codes:
DTC P0071 – Inlet Air Temperature Sensor Rationality
DTC P0111 – Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Rationality
DTC P0514 – Battery Temperature Sensor Rationality.
* Additional water-in-fuel (WIF) warning added to indicate that the operator has had a WIF (DTC P2269) and has continued to operate the vehicle in excess of 500 miles without draining the water from the fuel fi lter. The following is the new WIF DTC that has been added: DTC P0169 – WIF Too Long Error
* Improvement to the fuel pressure rationality test to prevent false test failures and the related DTC 0191.

This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the engine control module with new software.

I got it....seems ok. Maybe a tad more responsive. One bad thing which I cannot determine the cause is my high idle goes bye bye. It states on but you have to toggle the on/off with starscan to make it work. It works a week and it goes away again. After 3 times, I've just given up.

I supposedly got the latest flash. Now my P0514 is back. The tech said the software was supposed to fix that problem. So back to the dealer to have them make good on it. I paid for it and the rub is that I can't clear it with my OBD. Keeps coming back. I suppose the sensor is actuall bad but I don't need it. I live in a fairly temperate climate.
I hate that stupid light being on all the time.

I wouldn't call it a recall. $100.

This doesn't include the recall "fix" for the auto gear shift lever poping out of park and going into reverse does it? Don't hold me to this but weren't they adding that recall flash to any other flashes you may get on an auto truck? I got the notice several times and just threw it in the trash. Don't want no [email protected]*n honkin horn!

My flash was supposed to include the latest software AND eliminate the P0514. It didn't work. I believe the P0514 was going to be $30. Don't know about the auto's, I've got a 5 speed. Good luck.

hey John wouldn't the re flash become worthless if you use tuner..? don't tuners use their own software, even if you put it back to "stock" program? or they only adjust certain settings like torque, timing, RP.... :confused013:

The tuner will perform enhancements for things like HP and mileage.
Won't do a thing for sensor testing, oil pressure reading, etc.

Right now I'm stock when it comes to engine management. Holding off on a Smarty until I'm out of warranty.:(

My understanding was that smarty doesn't leave any traces in your ECU after you put it back to "stock", in case you have to take to the dealer..

Yep, that is what I read. Still not taking the chance right at this moment. Bigger issue is that I don't have the $500 to drop on a tuner.
