my truck is a 2002 2500 4x4 automatic all stock. My battery cables were really corroded and it stalled on me in town it was like the batteries were dead i wasnt getting anything so i got a boost and it started fine but as soon as i took the jumper cables off it would die. It did this a few times untill it eventually ran so i drove it home and on the way home my voltage meter was dancing all over the place from 8 to just under 18. So i made new cables got new batteries and it started up and ran fine for a minute or 2 the volt meter was fluctuating a bit around the middle of the gauge but didnt go outside the white then it started idling rough so i shut it down now it turns over fine but wont start and is throwing these codes 1693 1698 1689 0562 0234 0217 0215 (when i do the key trick)

Also check where your Neg terminals bolt to the engine.
You want wire brushed, clean then tight.

If you can not fix it with batteries and cables, have the alternator tested. After that the regulator function is performed by the PCM. Also check for corrosion or issues with the main fuse.
