The other day while I was driving just fine down the freeway all of a sudden my truck would not run much above idle for about 30 seconds and then it went back to normal. That was last weekend and since then it has been doing it more and more often. I asked a friend of mine what he thought it was and he he said it was the throttle position sensor but I wanted to see if any one else had any other ideas

Thanks

Sounds like the dreaded dead pedal. An IP is most likely in your very near future. Same thing happened to mine then became so frequent it was dangerous.

How do you know what they mean. My friend hooked up his code reader to it and didn't find any codes that said that the vp44 was going out

216 is the VP-44 death code more or less.
When the computer in the top starts to malfunction from loose solder connections from too many heat cycles, it will cause the dead pedal that you experienced but not necessarily throw any codes.
Sorry for your expensive news.
When mine started doing that , i swung in my local Cummins garage and asked them what they thought. They immediately told me about the computer failures of the VP-44. Good news is that the replacement pumps generally have the upgraded electronics in them.
I bought mine through my local Chrysler dealer at the time since I could buy wholesale then. That's been 41,000 miles ago....
Good luck with it.:confused013:

It's been a $1200 bill every time I've seen a 0215,that's how I know
Oh,just to be safe..if the fuel tank was around 1/4 tank or less I'd put some fuel in it,but I'm still 90% your VP44 is done

I had a full tank when it happened. Looks like I need a new one. Any suggestions one where I should get a new one at and if I should get an upgraded one vs a stock one

You may check Pensacola diesel. I've bought 6.2L Ip's from them before. Service was good and product was as advertised. I belive their VP-44's are around $1029.00

I'm in the middle of an IP circiut board "fix". This is an attempt to get my truck back up and runnin till I can get the funds for a replacement VP44. I pulled the circuit board Saturday and am delivering it to an electronics guy today. I'll keep ya posted. My truck showed "heat" issues with the EDM. We'll see if this works. Results will be posted in the thread VP44 Good Info....
