Hey guys,

My 2006 truck has been slightly missing when i get into the throttle heavy. The truck has 88000 miles on it and an airdog fuel filter system also. I didnt know if the injectors are starting to go or not. I run fuel additive in the fuel also. The truck previously had a Power Puck chip on it when the previous owner had the truck. I just started to notice that the truck is also surging at idle and making the interior dash lights vary from dim to bright when it does this. I bought the extended bumper to bumper warranty and i dont know if the injectors or the problem will be covered. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Can't help you on the slight miss on accel but the surging and dimming of the lights sounds like intake heater kicking on and off to me. Does the surging and dimming only happen on first start up in the morning or is it all the time? and How cold has it been out there in western PA in the a.m lately?

yea its been 50 degrees in the morning and only does it on start up. After the engine warms up there is no surging. Is this surge of the intake heater normal on all trucks? This may be the problem. Thanks

That's completely normal when the temp outside is under 60 degrees, it's the intake heater cycling, shouldn't have anything to do with your miss.

The Cummins engine uses a grid heater to heat up the intake air on cold mornings to help with cold starts as opposed to glow plugs.

You said you have an Airdog pump installed which means you probably have a draw straw in the tank. That could be your 1/4 tank miss problem, some people have issues with the draw straw not getting enough fuel at 1/4 tank or lower.

If you do have a draw straw and that is the problem they sell an external fuel pump conversion module that replaces the stock fuel pump/pickup module in the tank to take care of the 1/4 tank issue or just don't let her run that low on fuel. <(a lot cheaper solution)
