Transmission shifting hard from 3rd to 4th

8128 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  RamC10
I just recently bought a 2010 2500 crew cab auto tranny with 54000 miles on it and have noticed lately that the transmission shifts real hard into fourth when i am accelerating up a hill at a normal rate. if i baby it up the hill it shifts fine and if i romp on it up the hill it doesnt shift hard but jumps way up in rpms and acts like it doesnt want to shift. im just wondering if the tranny is taking a crap. i want to delete it but wondering if i should wait a little while longer and see what happens since i still have my warrenty :banghead:
Thanks

You might first ask your dealer to quicklearn the transmission (they do this with a scan tool). This resets all the shift adaptives to "factory" settings, and re-learns all the clutch volumes. It can often clear up harsh shift issues.

I would do as trans engineer suggested. He is very knowledgeable when it comes to these transmissions.

Oh and I would not dare delete until I was happy with the shifting of the transmission.

My brand new 2013, 6-day-old truck is downshifting really hard from 4-3 also. A nice jerk and clunk. Good luck. Looks like I will be taking mine back to the dealer...

Excuse me for sounding extremely new…. but I'm not versed in the world of these trucks yet.

What exactly is meant by doing a transmission delete? And what are the benefits?

Thanks,

Rhonda
