I just bought an 04 (Aug '03 mfg date) QC 4x4. I had the transmission checked out by AAMCO before I bought, plus a fluid and filter change. They said nothing in the pan, trans looks great.

So, driving the vehicle the first day, the machine won't shift to 2nd until 3k rpm, and the shift is harsh when it happens. Also, a few times when the range indicator said "D", the trans was still in neutral, and I had to jiggle the selector to actually drive.

Last, selecting '2' or even '1' doesn't seem to have any effect.

I checked out the online TSBs, and Governer Pressure Solenoid seems a possibility.

I am wondering if it is possible to use a generic OBDII reader to check trans pressure/temps while driving to diagnose if the Gov Press Sensor really needs replacement?

Any other ideas?

I assumed that the truck had a 48re, but reading the forums now i wonder if it's a 47re. How can I tell the difference?

I'm pretty sure its got the 48RE. The previous owner could have done a crappy job installing a shift kit. That would give you all your isses. Somebody else needs to chime in though, I'm still a newbie. Good luck.

After reading a little more it looks like you could ahve 47 or 48... shift kit thing could still be issue.

Definitely a 48re

I checked the build codes in the glove box, and it's definitely a 48re. Tomorrow I will adjust the front band, and check the tv cable adjustment. Anyone know how to check the trans pressure and/or temp with an OBD reader?

I had that same problem with my 05. I also had it checked out at AAMCO and those guys are retards they couldn't even tell me what tranny I had in it. They also took down the pan and couldn't find any thing wrong. So I took it to another place because they did performance rebuild and they told me that my torque converter was shot. With that said it wouldn't shift right because the sensor wasn't talking to the tranny right. my first gear and second gear were also smoked, even though it didn't drop stuff into the pan. I would suggest another shops opinion and not one that says we will take it down and look at it for free. They will screw ya.

Problem solved

I adjusted the front band, and adjusted the TV cable. The cable was waaay slack, at least 1/4 inch. I couldn't take up all the slack, even with the cable at max adjustment, so I ended up taking apart the spring housing on the end of the cable to investigate. I couldn't find anything wrong, but after reassembly, I could get the proper adjustment.

Do these cables stretch (75k miles) and need replacement? Is there another adjustment point at the tranny?

Note to others: I almost forgot to reattach the spring on the transmission lever that connects to the TV after the front band adjust. I can imagine that a tech might leave that spring off, or connect it wrong and cause binding. Maybe something to check if you are having tranny problems.

Anyway, the test drive went great, shifts smooooth now.
