Transmission Exchanging - Newby Here

We have a fleet of Dodge delivery pick ups. We have a 2006 Cummins with a 6 speed Mercedes Transmission. The engine needs overhauled but the transmission is good.

We have a 2004 Cummins with a 5600 New Venture transmission. The engine is fine but the transmission is shot.

My question: Will the Mercedes transmission from the 06 interchange with the 5600 NV on the 2004? My mechanic tells me there will be sensor issues, as well as possible issues with the drive shaft.

Any insight would be appreciated.
