ok guys... i've decided that instead of buying a tranny i am going to buy my parts piece by piece and get it assembled locally by a guy i know... he rebuilt my old 47re and ive given that thing heck and its still kickin....

1st things first... shafts... who makes the best ones? I was thinking going opie billet? Or should i go HTS?

2nd torque converter.... i have no idea where to go on this one... let me hear your input...

3rd valve body.. i was thinking HTS...

4th flexplate... again i was thinking HTS....

im sure i missed something... let me know your experiences and thought guys... and any tips will do too!

I have heard great things about HTS valve bodies. When you upgrade your input shaft suncoast makes a nice kit that has all the clutch and goodies that come out when the shaft comes out. I would check that out.

Looks like you need to talk to HTS. They are only about an hour or so from here, I have been planning to make a trip up there, just haven't made it yet.

I've been e-mailing HTS back and forth.... if my figures are right ill be able to save 2-3k having it built myself.... just not sure what the best parts are... If they had someone even close to me that manufactured a good tranny i'd be willing to spend the extra money... i just like having the piece of mind that if i have a problem with it the guy who built it himself can drive it and know what the problem is... not troubleshoot over the phone....

I have heard of, and I am running Opieparts.com shafts in my 48RE.

Here is what I have:
Dunrite VB
Dunrite Laminated Flex Plate
TCS Triple Disc Convertor
TCS Billit Input Shaft
Opie Intermediate
Opie Output
Alto Red Eagle Master Clutch Kit
Amsoil Universal ATF Fluid
AFE Trans Filter
PML Trans Pan

God, I spent too much money on that truck. No wonder my wife hates the Dodge!

Anyways, if you want to talk about your trans build and what you actually need vs whats out there, I will do my best to shoot honestly and tell you what you really need to know. It depends on what kind of power and mods your going to be planning... that can change every choice you need to make. Not everyone has a real use for $5K transmission. Some need more than that.

As of right now all i have is the 2 boxes stacked.... after the tranny im shooting for the 800 HP range... it will probably take me a years or so to get there... but id rather start off and build what i need and have the piece of mine that it wont break.... even if it is overkill...

Yeah i just went over to compd to research a little and the opie shafts look like they get some pretty hard criticism... man that sonnax shaft is pricey but is it worth the extra over a tcs or dtt?
