So reading the sticky i see that i have to upgrade the trans. Whats it costing these days to have the valve body upgraded. including labor? Anyone had this done recently? Can it be done with the trans installed in the truck?

What r ur plans for ur truck? At MINIMUM i would do a valve body and a Tc! The stock tc r garbage! Vakve bodiesbr like 300-700 couple hours to install the Tc is anywhere between 800-1600 <------- WORTH it!!

If your doing TC flex plate while your at it? or no value. I'm looking at the 500hp range. I was going to get a tuner next but whats the point! It seems i got more work to do before its really time to do that.

I'm having a valve body & torque converter installed next week, labor is about $600.

Ya if ur not going to be racing i would do a Tc/flex plate/ billet input/ valve body and u will be happy! In my opinion i would build it for 650 hp! So it gives u room to grow!

Agreed on the converter. Soooo much better fluid transfer efficiency compared to the stock unit, truck will feel completely different.

im looking for 500hp range in my 04 automatic, really want a built trans but prices are high i was wondering if ill be fine doing maybe tc, flexplate, valve body, and billet input shaft, then getting airdog II 165 and using a bully dog power pup that i got for a real cheap price, that should get me what like 450hp? id rather have a built trans cause of the upgraded clutches and steels and billet servos and all that, but they're all in the $4400 to $4800 range, thats high unless i get 6500 out of my dodge dakota im selling, owe 3k on it so 3500 would be mine and maybe some of my tax money? opinions please

A lot of guys go this route and are happy for a while. If it was me I'd wait until I had the funds to bolt a built unit in and be done.
