Trans Advice: billet Intermediate shaft?

2040 Views 12 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  cumminswelder05
I am ordering all my part for a truck biuld.

truck is a 2006 cummins qcsb, thuren 2 inch lift, 33.5" tires

ATP EFI v2 tuned by Rob, dual cp3s, flux 4s(200 hp injectors), twins 63/80, and other supporting mods.

On my trans is it worth the extra $$$$ 900-1000 for the billet intermediate shaft.

The truck is my Daily Driver. will be ran a few times at the track to see what it will do, tows some like 10,000lbs max (will be ran on lower setting). and 4wd launches at low boost, 10-15lbs

any advice???

yes you need it!
Might as well while your in there.
Intermediate shaft is a real toss up, the billets break almost as often as stock.

I think the intermediate shaft upgrade is more of a personal preference for a lot of trucks. The stock shaft can hold up to some abuse. You can let me know what all you are looking for in addition to the tuning and I will see if I can put together a package for you.
I ran 2 years with a stock intermediate shaft running 12.0s and driving it on the street and it broke after my p-pump swap. Id say you Dont need it.
Dont build too many transmissions that have a billet intermediate.
Been running low 11s all spring/summer/fall on mine... Stock intermediate shaft.

It really is preference. I put one in mine just to not have to worry about it but you don't need to do it. I have talked to many people that have their stock on in with no problems.
Are you building it yourself or having it built by a professional shop? If a shop, see what they recommend. The shop i went through recommended all billet shafts. They are very well known and great to deal with. Felt very comfortable with their recommendation and didn't once feel as if I was trying to be taken advantage of. $.02
i recently broke an inter. shaft. I dont have half the power as some of these other guys but she def went... Bossted launch of course.... I guess it was its time. Tranny guy wasnt happy cause he told me i didnt need it and well he rebuilt it with billet shaft this time...
