Tranny Upgrade?

1171 Views 15 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  bader
I want to add more power to my truck but am worried about my tranny giving out. I am planning on adding CAI, AirDog and injectors. What are some upgrades that I can do that won't break the bank?

Valve body will give you best bang for the buck. VB and torque converter would be a good start.
Which VB, Trans go shift kit or the whole VB? And if your going to do the TC might as well do the flywheel and input shaft.

I was planning to ask the same stuff soon. :ditto:

What VB?

Everyone says buy a VB and some other parts, but never give a brand name or any details for us NEWBS. Where do we look and what are we looking for?

I don't mind tearing into a auto. I rebuilt the TH350 that is in my Jeep now, granted that's the easiest auto in the world to rebuild. I ain't scared.
LearFXR I have some good friends up in your neck of the woods, but Im into do it yourself, it's in here some where on what people like on these transmissions, they need to sticky it. maybe some link to do it yourself VB mods.
I don't mind DIY stuff, or just parts swapping, which ever gets the job done. If I had the money I'd buy a complete rebuild kit and tear into it myself.

I looked up a site for BD and DTT cause they are site sponsors. Their stuff sounds nice. Maybe some day work will pick up and I can afford some of it.

If there are things that can be done without spending $600+ on a VB that would be great. I just don't have it to spend. I'm trying to sell a car I have sitting around in order to buy a Quad Adrenaline. I'd hate to have to sell my Ranger (back up truck) in order to buy transmission parts. It's nice to have a back up vehicle to drive

If your looking to save some cash with the valve body I would recommend the transgo shift kit. I have driven mine pretty hard for about 15K and have had zero problems. For torque converters HTS and Goerend are very popular. I don't know about HTS but Goerend has a lifetime warrenty. I have the Suncoast nad have no complaints. The Torque converter will probably run around $1300. If you do the TC you might as well do the flexplate too. I went with a BD diesel one mainly because the price was right at the time, look at around $400ish at a flex plate. The input shaft is a good idea too. I can't remember what i paid for mine. Suncoast also makes a rebuild kit with upgraded clutches and steels and such. I got all mine through Jason at dieselnutmotorsports.com. They are one of the site sponser here.
You can do a converter and a vb for the same price that most places want for just the converter. I run and recommend HTS valvebodies.
