Hello,

I have a 2003 5.9 Cummins 4 X 4 that as of yesterday will not shift from 1st to 2nd until 2400 rpm. The truck has 83K miles and rarely tows anything. I cycled the ignition key on and off and code P2509 displayed, which indicates power input signal interupted, which doesn't sound like at shifting issue.

Does anyone know why the tranny doesn't want to shift. Down shifting does not seem to be an problem.

I appreciate any input.

Karl

Mine does that every once in a while....normally after a 12pt turn, or an ape sh** manuver like stopping quick and doing a 3pt turn.....just holds 1st....pull over cool down....shut down and then cycle the key and let the radio come back on each time and them start on the third cycle...back down the road I go again!! Last time I had it happen I pushed the shifter towards N and made sure it was in D and it grabbed second and held second but still had to do the 3 cycles....dealer says there are no codes and I have not been able to get any out of the odometer.

I figure that a full DTT trany would fix it!!! :confused013:

Thanks.

Cycling the key did not help. As I check my records I see the last tranny fluid change was at 45K miles. The fluid level is good, but I will change fluid and filter tomorrow and see if it corrects the problem.

Thanks.

Hello, oil/filter change had no effect on the problem. I have noticed the problem is not a delay in shifting to 2nd gear, but it is skipping second and going to 3rd, not shifting until the proper speed so winds out to 2400 rpm. I've heard possibly clutch servo or governor circuit but was hoping some else had the exact problem to advise. Thanks. Karl
