'01 Dodge 3500 Diesel 2WD Automatic-Tranny wants to jump from drive to OD or maybe it's the convertor?? Either way it's driving me crazy!!! I put an output speed sensor on it and unhooked the batteries, it did good for a few days and starts right back up again....I'm about to choke it and make it tap out! Please help!

Sorry if this is posted somewhere on here a 100 times before!

Thanks in advance.

Thanks to both. MPH is irrelevant but when you are at a cruise for example you can be driving 50 or 30 and when your are just barely giving it gas to go it jumps back and forth etc...does that make sense

odd shifting problems

sounds like an issue I have had a few times - the local shop guy told me that the tranny uses voltage to tell it when to shift - and that a 0.3 Volt fluctuation will screw it up - mine slammed gears so bad i thought it needed a new tranny until he told me to clean the grounds (and I said YHGTBFKM!)

i took apart all electrical connections (especially battery grounds and ground to engine block and both frame grounds), cleaned and used dielectric grease to prevent any more corrosion - has run like a champ for 18 months since

good luck

Wow, LOL. Sounds like some of the knuckleheads I've talked to around here!

I finally had time to read over a lot of the "sticky" at the top of the page and it really sounds like what you and others are saying, I am gonna put some time on it this weekend and see if that fixes it! Thanks for all the help and suggestions from everyone....I sure would have never looked at an alt wire for a tranny jumping around! Talking about chasing a problem....woo whoo
