I bought my truck and it came with a electronic brake controller, but when im pulling a trailer the brakes on trailer aren't working. I have traced wires and connections and cant seem to find any problems. I have pulled several different trailers so I know its not just that trailer. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,

Here is a wiring diagram for the plug.
Check to see if you are getting power to the trailer brake wire at the plug before replacing controller.
Some of the electronic controllers will not send power if it does not sense resistance.

Check for disconnected/broken ground on the trailer.

Also, check under the dash to make sure the brake controller is plugged in. Just to the left of the steering column there's a massive wire harness connector with a 10mm bolt in the middle of it. There should be a blue harness socket right up against that connector. That's the brake controller wire harness socket.

As stated before me, check the wires under the truck. A voltmeter is your friend in this situations.

Check to see if the controller is lighting up and has power, then make sure you have a secure connection where your trailer is being plugged into the truck

the lights on the controller come on but stays green even if I manually use trailer brake slide button and I cant feel the brakes grabbing at all, I will look at the harness under the dash. I have also heard of the trailer plug adapter can cause them to not work, not sure if that's correct but its a thought I guess. Im gonna have it in the shop for routine maintence so I will have to crawl all over and find the problem. My next question is there a way to know if I got them working without having to hook on to a trailer?

I've found using a voltmeter at the 7 way plug on the truck and then having a friend engage the manual brake lever on the brake controller and see if you get and voltage reading by tapping the correct prong.

Even a test light on the electric brake prong to ground should show if the signal is getting there. Have buddy hold it there while u move the manual brake slider the light should get brighter as u apply more brake.
Everytime I've had no electric brakes it's been an issue with the controller. Probably should stop buying the 20 dollar ones. Lol

Curious as well because I have the same issue with my car trailer/truck. I can feel them grab but not enough to stop me. My brothers Tahoe will lock it up solid. It's a tekonsha prodigy
