Hey everyone, I ordered a set of Toyo AT2 285/75/17 a few weeks ago from 4wheelparts.
Talked to somebody at our local store last week, was told these are on a national backorder, maybe another 2-4 weeks. I actually called Toyo to confirm this and they told me that, yes the AT2's have been on backorder almost since they came out but they are constantly making them and filling orders. Ok, fair enough.
This morning talked to my sales guy, asked him to maybe make a few calls and find out if we can't get these in a bit sooner. Maybe bring them in from another store or something. Calls me back later in the day and tells me these tires are actually on a nationwide recall.
I will call Toyo again in the morning to find out what the hell is going on.

Do any of you guys have any further info about this?
Greatly appreciated!!

I was pretty much set on Toyo AT2's. What else should I be looking at? Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs are pretty high on my list too. Both nice looking, long wearing tires that should get get us in and out of camping spots.

Anybody run Nitto's or anything else they have feedback on?
Any input is appreciated guys.

I had toyo open country at2's for my 6.7 and they rode pretty good. Not sure what this recall could be for. They were also supposed to have like a 65,000 mile lifespan or something crazy like that?

A lot of people run terra grapplers and those seem to be well regarded as a great tire. My uncle has duratracs on his 02 Lb7 and those are kinda loud and they have a more aggressive tread than either of the nitto or toyos.

Yeah that's part of the reason why I'm leaning towards it. High mileage and good fuel economy according to many people here on the forum.

I don't buy that. A quick Google search turns up no news about any recalls. It's a very popular AT tire, I'm sure demand is just high. I had a set of 305/55/20's on my 3rd and 4th gen when I had it. I would not hesitate to buy another set.

You're right, did a search last night too and the only recall notices are from like 2011 or older. And none were for Open Country.
Going to call Toyo this morning, give 4wheelparts the benefit of the doubt.

I have put about 3k on a new set of Toyo AT2's (285-75-17) . Excellent tire so far . Everything about these tires has been very impressive up to this point . It did take 5 weeks to get them .

Wow I've never heard anyone mention that before. Does Schwab say if it's a specific model or are all the Open Country's supposed to do this?
There are a lot of rig workers on here that drive lease roads. Can you guys confirm this?
Thanks for the input.

Gravel roads chew everything up.
Toyo has a brand new plant and hired 1000 employees. If they can't keep up,they've got a good product.
Sounds like it's time to bust out the walls and expand again.
The shop I use mounted some 35" Toyo RT's last week. 2.50 oz was the max for balancing. One tire took a whopping 1 oz. Pretty precision product normally.

Who is 'They' and why stay away?:confused013:. I'm looking at getting the exact size you mention. All I've heard otherwise is that it's a great tire & choice.
I'm running ProComp extreme A/T's now and really like them but am going to give the TOYO's a shot.

So, yesterday I confronted my sales guy about telling me the AT2's were on recall when they are not and I told him that I called Toyo the day after and they had ensured me there is no recall.
He back pedalled a little bit and explained that Toyo had produced a bad batch and that they had recalled some tires that had been shipped out to their distributors. The result of this is that 4wheelparts in Calgary won't receive these tires till January now. He did show me the email exchange so I gotta take his word for it I guess. They have lots of AT2's back in the warehouse, I saw them, just not in 17". :bang head:

They do have Mickey Thompson MTZ and Nitto Trail Grappler in stock right here. What do you guys think about either of those? Both in 35"

I chose the AT2's because they seem to have the most open tread out of all AT tires that I looked at. I move closer to a MT tire but I can't use a more street oriented tire than the AT2. I'm going to check with some other local dealers this week.

I ran 295/70/17's trail grapplers and they were great. Awesome off road traction and not too bad on the street.

Do you remember how many miles you got out of those?

the only bad thing I have found with the trail grappler is that u can get a size 305/??R18'' tire in a LT305, the only size LT tire they have is LT295/70R18'' or 325/60R18'' there is no E rated LT tire in between, im on the fence between toyo or nitto as im going to b buying new 18'' rims and tires today
