Would a pretty much stock '00-'02 5.9 be able to tow a 7,000lb trailer? Someone on the Hemi forums said he had to have his tranny replaced after towing a 3,000lb boat. Is he just messing with me or not?

The guy must be a tard and in-capable of driving properly, it had a million miles on the tranny, or he was screwing with you, because the cummins will tow that 7000 pound trailer without even batting an eye.

i "tugged" 11,500 for a year with my truck bone stock, did just fine, i could pull some pretty decent hills at 65-70 no sweat. 3k lbs you wont even know it's back there. i could be pullin my 11,500 up a 5% grade and still pass a hemi thats only pullin 3k

I recently bought my 98.5 24V specifically for towing. The towing capacity is 11,900 lbs with my 5 speed. GCVWR is 16,000 lbs with 3.55 diff and 18,000 lbs with 4.11. You'll be fine with a 7000 lbs load. Now the autos aren't known for their strength. But they won't blow up unless abused or worn out.

I do this yearly...:rof

I will admit the Dodge Automatic are extremely weak transmissions. That why I got a 5 speed...:w:

Someone call a Cummins skidder? :rof

good stuff right there, mike... real nice vid.
One last vid then... A buddy with a stock 12V Cummins trying to show how to pull like a real skidder... His only mod is the VE pump is turned up...:thumbsup

That was one big arse tree and heavy... Take a look as I stand next to it with my buddy son standing behind it...

Now that's a heavy load...

All done on a stock 1992 Dodge Cummins (160 HP engine VE pumped) With a 5 speed trans...:w::rof

I wouldn't call him a liar, but i will say that the problem was either user error or simply a bad transmission. Unless your transmission is acting up i really would take what he said with a grain of salt.
