Truck is a '16 2500 with 3.42's

Pulling my 28ft enclosed trailer which I'd have to say is 7-8k lbs loaded I get roughly 10-11mpg's at 70mph. Hell even pulling my bass boat I see barely 13mpg at 70. Not sure if this is just the way of things but having to stop at 3am on my way home from the track is a minor inconvenience lol

Anyone else with a similar setup care to weigh in with their numbers?

You are getting pretty much exactly what you should expect. It's not the weight, its the fact you have a big giant wind anchor behind you and you are going 70mph. The amount of drag that is working against you is exponentially increased when you are over 55mph. Slow it down some and you'll get another 1-2mpg, but for what you are towing & as fast as you are driving, 10-11 is exactly what to expect.

I get the best MPG's at 62-65 mph towing our 5th wheel, at 15,000lbs loaded. I know not all want to poke along, but it is what it is. Towing I see 7-11 mpg depending on weather, wind, terrain, ect.

What you are getting is completely normal for these trucks. Slowing down will get you a little better but not much.

I saw 7 - 9.5 towing my 5th wheel 13k camper on the interstate. I blame the highway gears, but the big air brake I drag doesn't help.

Agree with the above. Just came back from a 750 mile round trip towing our 5er, 13,500#. Averaged 10 mpg. Mostly flat terrain. 65-70 mph.

I had a RAM 2500 with a Hemi. I was seeing about 9~10MPG towing my heaviest trailer.

I figured I'd get me a Cummins and get better MPG. Figured I'd see 13 ~ 14 MPG.

Towed trailer with Cummins, I also got ~10MPG... WTFudge? Spent dat money and got about same MPG on a more expensive fuel...

I am seeing better empty millage with the Cummins. And I'll admit it pulls up the mountains better. Hemi would see 30 to 40 MPH going up mountains, Cummins will hold the speed limit 65~70.

Had I known I'd see about the same MPG towing, I may have just stayed with the Hemi.

Yeah first wheeling trip with the dually. Even though I was heading to the rubicon up hwy50 and then back down, I only averaged 11.5. Oddly I got the same going up as I did coming down. I think the 4.10’s hurt mpg’s. My 05’ on 37’s and 3.73’s got about the same. Truck only has 1,200 miles on her so maybe it will get a little better.

I have an ATC aluminum enclosed. It's a 26" v nose and my loaded weights are about the same as yours. I get between 11-12 mpg's at 75mph.

I guess you should have got the v nose option:stirpot:

I always look at it like this. "what ever I just bought in diesel, I would probably be around 2X that in fuel if I had a gas engine"

Just to maintain speed limit vs 30mph.... WORTH IT.
Chugging along at 1900 RPM vs what.. 4500 in 3rd or 2nd.... WORTH IT.
Resale value....? I dont plan to sell mine, but still worth it.

I did 3,000 miles towing a bumper pull parachute, stayed at 65mph unless I needed to pass that guy with the gas motor, that couldnt hang. Still got 10-11 maybe, but I drove like an old man. (most of the time)
But being able to go around that big ol smokey RV or someone pushing THEIR limits.
WORTH EVERY PENNY...

Never having to "need" for any more power that what you have at your demand.... guess?

Haha maybe! She's an old trailer but pulls true, slight hole in the back so its a little lighter . Just sucks having to make the extra stop. 99 F350 used to do the same trip no prob but I believe the tank in those were 38 gal. Wish ram would have given us a few more gallons!

I appreciate the replies. Time to do my least favorite thing, adapt lol :RANTIN:
