In my truck it locks out 5th and 6th (overdrive gears).

Some benefits I could think of is better performance since tow/haul sends shift points further in the RPMs. Another benefit could be slow speed driving (parking lots stop and go traffic) in tow/haul your transmission shouldn't do a lot of gear jumping from a low gear to a really high gear when you let off the throttle. These are just my thoughts not sure how true they are, hopefully someone can verify my thinking.

You are both correct. Tow/haul mode significntly improves the shift points and T/C lockup on the 68rfe. Most people here on the forums run T/H at all times, loaded and unloaded.

I' am running the H&S overdrive software and also utilize t/h mode. The truck shifts like a built transmission. Firm crisp shifts, T/C lockups almost instant after each shift and the shift points are higher during WOT conditions.

If I'am not mistaken, T/H mode also boosts the line pressure in the transmission as well.

Better for the transmission to run that way without hunting threw all the gears in city driving?

So Tow/Haul Mode on your 2014 wont allow it to shift into 5th or 6th gear? Because thats what I read as locking out 5th and 6th. If thats the csae than 2010-2012 are not like that, I put mine in Tow/Haul everytime I drive with the Exhaust Brake on and I have all 6 gears.

Yea, I think mine still has 5th and 6th, that's why I asked what the benefit was. I actually notice the much firmer shifts and much later in the rpm range. Actually feels a little sportier!

When I put it manual gear mode by pressing the + on the shift lever without tow/haul active it shows 6 as my highest gear. When I activate tow/haul it shows 4th as my highest gear. I will double check this on my way to work tomorrow morning.

I just went out to the truck, and it looks like I'm wrong about it locking out 5th and 6th. It must have been me keeping it in 4th gear not tow/haul mode.

I turned ignition on pressed the - button on shifter and it showed 6th as highest gear, pressed tow/haul and still showed 6th as highest gear. So it looks like I made a mistake sorry about the confusion.

Correct! You definitely don't want to be lugging around when driving around ton. I'd much rather have the higher shift points and higher rpm's while city driving.

Anybody ever figure out the difference in mpg driving around town vs no T/H mode. I have also noticed the exhaust brake seems stronger as well.

You beat me to this question as I'm wondering the same thing.

Just a little update, I drove to work this morning with tow/haul and exhaust brake on, and it did shift into 5th and 6th. Truck felt like a different animal it didn't fell like I was driving an 8,000 pound truck. Also truck slowed down so quick with normal foot brake input it about put me into the windshield.

I've tested locking out 6th in town and fuel mileage. The mileage is a little better using 6th but the truck feels much better in 5th. I'll run all the way up to 60 in 5th. I am running 35s though so my final drive gearing is slightly higher than a normal truck on stock tires with 3.73.

I was wondering i run with EB on and the T/H on all the time and going to be plowing is it good to plow with the T/H on and EB on? And will it matter in 2wd or 4wd?

I decided to use the tow/haul mode going home from work, it did seem to have a little more pep and the engine brake seemed a little stronger than with the tow/haul turned off, I think I will run it that way for a while.

Souldnt matter in either drive works the same in both for me. I would use tow/haul, and depending on how the truck acts with EB leave it off.

I say that because the EB might cause the wheels to slip and spin in snow. Using tow/haul should help keep the RPMs up when pushing a heavy amount.

If going between 50-60MPH I would keep tow/haul off. I have found that it will stay in 5th until you get to about 60 then it will shift. Tow/haul is good in the city but it would be better if it would stay in the higher RPMs alittle more sometimes it shifts to quick for me.

I use t/u always, it will keep the trans from shifting into 5&6 at 40mph or at 1000rpm which will save your OD clutches. These trucks have too much torque to put on them at low speeds and rpm. I lock out 6th except on highways and freeways over 50mph

I like the others, have run T/H with the EB since ay one with 57 miles and now have over 100k running this way, much better on the truck and trans. On a side note i tend not to run the EB on the ice when that is a factor

Is there a way to force the truck to start with T/H engaged? And have the traction control off, and STAY off? I'm constantly pushing buttons in this silly truck!

If you could disable ABS it will turn trac control off, it works off of ABS. There maybe a fuse to disable trac control but the government prob mandates that its computer controlled.
