My 08 has marginal at best A/C compared to my other car and truck. It works fine on the highway, but in the city during hot spells I can drive to 20 minutes on the freeway and it is just getting comfortable when I get home. There was a thread about the ac a couple months ago and it seems this is a common problem. I wondered it tinting the windows has helped anyone else that has this problem or should I complain to the dealer and hope for a miracle.

I always tint my windows. The darker the better. I noticed with putting tint on a lot of trucks, that everyone says it keeps the inside a bit cooler.

Right on big dodge, when mine was new with no tint I cooked when the sun was on my side. I only put 20% all the way around but man did that help. Get some tint guy if you dont have it yet. You'll stay cooler and not get sunburnt.

Hmmm my AC will freeze you out of the truck:lol3: Tint does keep the inside of the truck from getting too hot and it will also save some of your interior trim from fading.

mines the same way. my 03 1500 would freeze you out and my 08 6.7 takes forever to cool off and is nowhere near as cold as the 03

mine was the same way, it does seem a little better after they replaced the AC compressor.

I think your all just spoiled :T:

I did not tint the windows on my 04, but I did have them tinted on my 08, much better. They also put a strip on the front window, looks good and keeps it cooler inside.

My system was so full of oil. I had our a/c guy at work check it and he said it was over charged and went to let some out and all it did was foam, which was all oil. A week later I had something go thru the condenser and had to replace the accumulator and condenser ( doin it right ) and put exactly 30oz. as stated on the sticker and 2oz. of pag 100 oil and it gets down to 36* coming out of the drivers vent by the door (farthest away from blower) it registers 34* at center of the dash. Long story short they are over charge with too much oil from the factory. Hope this helps.

Mine has the same issue, it was 8oz low on freon from the factory it worked fine for about a month after they fixed that issue. The problem is back again and I am almost getting tired enough of it to take the truck back in. My windows are dark with big eyebrow as well so the problem is in my a/c I know.

damn...i reguarly run mine about 75% of max (with the knobs) just to keep from having frozen arms. definately something wrong with your ac.

and fyi...if yer going to tint..might as well do the whole truck. the back glass is just pigmented...and there is no uv protection from that.

I blacked out my rear window and back seat windows, and add another layer (one shade darked than legal) to my front windows, and darkest strip to my windshield. It made a lot of difference maintaining coolness and sunburn effect. I think it was a great investment. On my 08, 6.7, the A/C is about the only thing that works good.

Amen to the tint! I live in South Florida and I make damn sure the tint shop is one of the first places I go after picking up a new ride. I put 30% all the way around. It looks great, and I can still see my mirrors and surroundings clearly at night. Make certain that your tint installer uses a good quality metallic tint with UV protection. You can easily see if it's good stuff by looking at a sample with a pair of polarized glasses. You'll see stripes and distortion in a good tint.

Something else that helps me a lot is putting up a windshield reflector when I park. It makes a tremendous difference in the heat, and amount of time it takes to cool off when I get back on the road.

As far as the A/C, I notice that mine is mediocre at start up and idle, but once I am moving, It cools down quickly. Perhaps it's because of the low RPMs, but I am going to put a gauge on it when I get a chance anyhow.

The LEO's are picky about tint around here. I'd like to add some, but it's not worth getting pulled over... Even if the tint is 'legal' it still gives them an excuse for a roadside chat. My AC blows cold, but I guess that's relative since I don't live down south.
I had a friend who got pulled over for tint, by the time the officer got back from writing him up he had it all peeled. Officer said he had never seen anyone do that and tore up the ticket.

i had the same prob with my 07.5 mega-cab. the a/c sucked. i live in south texas, so summer temps are regularly over 100*. i have all windows tinted and always use an eclipse front sunshade. i had it to the dealer 2 times and was told all was normal and acceptable. couple weeks ago i installed ball valves to shut the coolant off from the heater core. HUGE difference!!!!! i now can run the a/c on the first or second speed when it's 100 outside. on the 6.7 it takes 3 valves, so you can keep the coolant going to the turbo. takes about 20-30 minutes and has made me decide to hang on to the truck. i was seriously considering getting rid of due to the crappy a/c.

MIne sucks too and it's illegal to tint the windshield or front windows here in Va. I think I may be able to do a very light tint on the fronts but i don't know if it's even worth the money. What i have done is started using my windshield shade all the time. Mine even covers the front windows too so even when it's 95 degrees out my truck is not hot at all inside and the A/C starts getting cold immediately. I'm really happy about that because I would get almost all the way home before my air would start getting cold.
There are threads at Dodgetalk and DTR about installing shutoff valves in the coolant lines going to the heater core and this has helped many guys get their A/C working properly also. It's real easy on 5.9s but a bit more complicated on 6.7s since that line also cools the turbo...
