I installed 6 new injectors few months ago and almost ever since the install if you are lugging and have to accelerate i get a rattle somewhere around 1000rpm to 1200rpm then it goes away never done that with original injectors any ideas will be greatly appreciated

I get the same thing, drives me nuts. If its 65* or warmer outside I dont get it but its been cooling off lately so back comes the rattle. From what I have read its the cp3 pump making that noise. When I first got the motor installed I heard this and thought immediatley it was injectoes, took it in and had it checked out, evertyhing was good to go. Theres a big long thread with many that have he same noise.

Are you sure they where installed correctly? Could be the cp3 but doesn't sound like it. Deffinatly an injector rattle

Does it only do it when you're in too high of a gear at too low of an RPM? You say you're lugging it. It doesn't want to lug. Bad juju to lug an engine around. Downshift.

Yes it sounds like a gas engine knock. And I know it I am not suppose to lug but I have always been bad about doing it but never made noise before injector install.

Listen to what your engine is telling you. It don't like it. Don't do it. It's normal to hear it, but not... y'know? That's what it should do in that situation... but you shouldn't make it do it.

Try some PowerService (white bottle) and I think it will tame the rattle or might make it disappear all together. It improves the way the fuel burns, will run smoother and quieter too.

OP: timing rattle = fuel rattle = injector rattle.

stock OEM Bosch nozzles? some of the aftermarket have really lousy injector spray hole angles, hole smoothness and edges. diesel spray doesn't hit the bowl as designed, there will be uneven combustion and noise.

lugging a HPCR builds up gobs of carbon deposits over the injector holes, piston tops and bowls.
injectors spray like an old man in a restaurant rest room. has to shove it clear inside the porcelain or it dribbles all over the floor and somebody has to stand in his piss.

kills your horsepower.

the new injectors are spraying correctly, just have to deal with pre diesel combustion from carbon hot spots on top of piston and in the piston bowl.
try some diesel kleen and towing heavy for several hours with EGTs at 1000>1200d F, but you may be pulling the head to fix the 12v like carbon rattle.

also carbons up the impeller wheel on the turbo, making it inefficient.

Hey steelhead, I have a real bad rattle/ping ever since I had all injectors replaced with Mopar remans. I plow in the winter so the Cummins gets worked then but I don't tow heavy so I'm thinking now I may also have a carbon issue. I'm gonna hook up to something heavy and give her a workout.
What did you mean by "you may be pulling the head to fix the 12v like carbon rattle"?

I'd believe he's talking about decoking the engine. The process is rather simple, it essentially means you pull the head and "chip away" all the carbon that has built up on the piston crown and head.
