I have a bone stock 2019 Ram 3500 Sport with the standard Cummins engine, automatic transmission and 75k miles. It's a great truck but I've been daily driving my Jeep Wrangler. The truck stays parked in the garage since I'm hardly dragging anything around anymore.
I just got an offer on my Jeep to sell privately and that got me to thinking that maybe I should sell/trade the dually and buy a Ram 3500 SRW to daily drive.

Question #1. Has anyone gone from a dually to a SRW and hated it?
Question #2. Would you spend the extra for the H.O. Cummins in a 3500 SRW?

#1, Depends on your needs really. Can a SRW handle anything you might tow? If yes, shouldn't be a problem, if no, there is your answer. I'm pretty happy with my SRW, i've ran dually's for years, but my 18 SRW handles everything i need it to, so no need for a dually. There have been a couple of times the lower gears or training wheels would have been beneficial, but i was well within my limits and capabilities of the SRW

#2, no. I wouldn't pay for the HO unless it was the only truck on the lot that suited my other wants, if i had the choice between a HO and SO, i'd go with the SO. With modern torque management, you'll never truly notice the difference. the HO is basically an upcharge for bragging rights on power outputs

i had an ‘07 dually and went to a ‘16 SRW and now a ‘22 SRW, all CCLB trucks, sometimes i do miss it, but it’s so much less of a pain in the a$$ for everyday activities. especially where i live in the woods with tiny roads. i do have to say though, a crew cab long bed with no lift/stock tires in a SRW does look a little goofy to me, i had to put a 3.25” Carli lift and 1.5” block in the rear with my 36s to make it look less like a train.

Your truck looks great. I have 35x12.5x17 all terrain tires with 2” spacers between the rear wheels. Personally I’m not a fan of the rear tires sticking out past my fenders, throwing mud on my rear view mirrors and the sides of the truck, but most people like the look. It would be nice to be able to get through a bank drive thru again or park like a normal person. You are correct about the look of a crew cab with an 8’ bed, it’s long as a covered wagon and has the same turning radius.

thanks, ya i agree, if i was to do a dually again, it would definitely have skinnier tires out back, but back in 2010 when i was 23, i wanted extra wide tires, gota love it…

like Shock88 mentioned, one of the keys to possibly going to a SRW from a dually to me would be if the SRW was short or long wheel base. I've had a dually for the past 20 yrs and bought our oldest a 2500 CCSB and that bed feels like you can't put anything back there...the truck looks good, but functionality-wise I just use my dually whenever we need to haul anything in the bed

if you decide to buy/order, there are dealerships pricing orders like the pre covid market...Mark Dodge in Lake Charles LA and Granger in Iowa

I had a short bed 3/4 ton before and you're right about hauling things in the bed. Whatever you want to haul always seem to be too long for a 6.5' bed. I never pulled our gooseneck trailer with the 3/4 ton either, so i wonder if that's going to be an issue with the shorter bed.

On another note, I am talking to the guys at Mark Dodge, since they are in the same state as me.
Trying to figure my best value: 1. impulse buy what they have in stock and pay premium
2. order what i want and save money but wait 6 months (the way the economy is going, waiting looks like a better option)

Thanks,
Ron P.

Where are you located? We could swap axles, wheels, and tires. All you'd need is a new bed instead of a new(er) truck payment.

I'd go for the HO all day but I may be biased. Unlike what has already been said, you can definitely feel the torque difference and the Aisin is a stronger transmission.
