Hi guys new the forum just have a quick question.
I just purchased an 06 2500 5.9 automatic. This is my first diesel truck.
I am a mechanic so I am familiar with vehicles, but there seems to be some sort of a small ticking noise coming from the motor. Motor runs great and has great fuel milage. Any thought to what this may be or am I just being paranoid.
Thanks !

Watch your number 4 injector line. Or just replace now. Its easy to do. Mine did that just before she blew and caused a big mess!

Many threads have been started on this.... do a quick search and you could read for hours! lol. But from what ive gained it can be one of 3 things.

1) injector rattle
2) Cp3 pump noise
3) valvetrain

i have the same ticking noise. drove me nuts! so i decided it was time to check the valves and injector hold downs and stuff. just to make sure. then i checked all the injector lines and injector tubes. still had the tick. then, i decided to take the tuner off my truck and see what happens. tick was still there but a little quieter, chaulked a little bit of the ticking up to injector rattle (which is normal from what i understand). SO, i reinstalled the tuner and drove the sucker. then i started to add and OZ of 2 stroke oil per gallon of fuel at each fill up.

the noise got CONSIDERABLY quiter. so from all that i have come to the conclusion that my ticking is my cp3 pump. people say it is mis-clocked? i guess you could say, in relation to the engine. the cp3 pistons are basically "fighting" the engines pistons, I.E. going in opposite directions/stroke or what have you.

the way i look at the tick is, and this has been said before on CF... my truck isnt broken, so im not gonna try to fix it. she runs fine... just has the tick. so for now im just going to drive it. turn the radio up a little more. haha

ALSO, there is a CP3 procedure (i believe in the stickies) that explains how to reclock the cp3
