Just bought a 96 2nd gen 12V cummins yesterday. We where almost home (4 hour interstate drive) and it stuck, drove itself at 60 for about 5 minutes. Finally got to a gas station and put WD40 on it, husband messed with it for 5 minutes or so & got it good enough to get home. He is a beginner mechanic and said it needs a new cable. Is that all it needs?

It might be eligible for the cable recall Recall #970 - throttle cable

You can check with your VIN here> Dodge - Contact Us)

If the cable recall has been done and it failed again the dealer is legally required to do the recall again no matter how many miles or owners the vehicle has had.
If the dealer tries to tell you that you have to pay for the recall they are eligible for a huge fine. Call Chrysler corporate's number in the contact us link and tell them, the dealer will change their mind really fast.

That means that apparently the recall has already been done on that vehicle. IF Bill is correct they would still have to recall it for you.

Did you check into parts pricing or repair with them?
