Hi all, as the title says im looking possibly trading my 01 in on an 07.5 6.7, and I know very little about this new of a truck. It is a mega cab 4x4 auto with 219xxx on the clock. Very clean looking truck and seems to be well taken care of and 100% stock aside from cosmetics. Do these trucks have weak points like the 24v 5.9? Also, I know it probably wont get the mileage of my 24v but what is average? Are there any must-do mods on these like the lift pump on my 01? I know this is a lot of questions but I am trying to make an educated decision, so anything helps. Thank you in advance!

Is there a reason that you need the newer truck? Having had a 2000 3500, I can tell you that the maintenance and parts for the 6.7 are much higher, especially at that milage. A set of injectors for the 6.7 is about triple the price for the 5.9. What type of driving do you do, mostly city or highway? With all of the EPA crap on the 6.7, they choke on city driving. Finally gave in and did the deletes on my 07.5 and am starting to appreciate the 6.7 engine. Gained about 4 mpg ( running about 20 now on the highway with some city). Since both trucks have pretty much the same milage, you are not gaining anything there. Personally, if you are happy with the 01, and it is in good shape, you might be better off keeping it.

Thanks for the reply, I downsized from a 4 door 06 gmc to my ext cab dodge and with the family the ext cab is fairly inconvenient. I do a lot of highway driving and I have already looked at doing the delete mods if I do wind up with it. My 01 is getting pretty rough and quite honestly I am starting to question its reliability so its going to need some $$ put into it before I trust it again. I guess my main reason is wanting more cab room and a newer rig.

Those extra two doors sure are handy, and with family climbing in and out, is a very good reason to want the truck. Are there any maint. records on the 07? With that many miles, it would be nice to know if any of the high dollar items have been replaced, such as injectors, turbo, front end parts, etc. Have you looked at a Carfax on it? Good place to start. You didn't say what they were asking for it, but look on KBB to see what they value it at. Also look at Auto Trader for similar vehicles in your area. The dealer probably gave the PO almost nothing for it on trade, so you have some wiggle room on the price. Just remember, with any used vehicle, there will be unexpected expenses, so factor that into what you are willing to pay.

Other than the emissions junk (not on my truck any more), both 07.5 trucks I have owned have been great vehicles. I had a qclb, now I have a mega, I really thought I would miss the long bed, but the trade for a rolling apartment was worth it. Traveling with the family is much easier and more comfortable. I have had a family of four in an extended cab(really sucks), an QC (not too sucky), and now a mega(sometimes I forget they are back there), if your truck is your vacation machine, you're going to want a mega.

Thanks for the replys all! The truck has a clean CarFax report, it was a one owner out of Texas. I am going to look at it Friday as that's my first day off and I plan on trying to find some maintenance records if they are in the truck. The dealer is asking 19,900 but it will all depend on the condition of the truck and their trade in offer on my 01. I have bought several vehicles from this dealership and they have always treated me right with good trucks, but I also know they cant keep a 6 speed 5.9 in stock so I have some leverage there.

My truck is always my road trip/vaca machine and I have family in several states, so I think the mega would be amazing. Most trips we are pulling a trailer so it seems like the best of both worlds in my opinion. I plan on going over the truck with a fine tooth comb, and take it for a fairly lengthy test drive. I'm sure there will be some unexpected expenses my 01 was a really good lesson in that theory. As always any tips, things to look for, opinions, etc are appreciated!

Sounds like a solid truck..but it's not going to be anything like your 01....gonna cost more for aftermarket parts...there's days I really miss my 98 but I've grown accustomed to heated seats..exhaust brake..and sirus radio...and remote start...and you can't beat a mega for haulin the family..good luck with your decision..

Well my plans got delayed, so I hopped in the truck this morning and took off for the dealership as they still had the truck listed for sale on there web site. Drove an hour and a half, and it was gone! Sold it last night, so I looked around and nothing else really peaked my interest so I guess that one wasn't meant to be. I am going to keep looking and thank you all for the comments and help!!
