Decided to change my factory filter at the engine today. I currently had 10,000 miles on it (pic) I use to change this at every 6k previous to my addition of the extra filter and water seperator and it would be very dirty like charcoal or almost black after just 6k miles

I added the baldwin BF1212 water seperator and the CAT 1R-0750 filter and the first change i did at 5,000 miles and it was very clean, so i pushed it out to 10,000 miles and it is still pretty clean IMO. I may run it out to 15-20k this time around

For those on the fence about adding extra filtration this is a must as the factory fuel filter set up and the crap fuel we get at the pump is less than stellar

Just wanted to share

after 10 k

my filter set-up

What did that filter setup run you if you don't mind me asking? Comparative to an air dog or bass, just curious as to why you wouldn't just go that route. Thanks!

$130 total into it with the cost of filters. thats building it myself, the reason i didn't go airdog/fass was because i never plan on any hp increase that would require that. my goal since day 1 with this truck is just reliability.

i went with a good filtration set up for both fuel and oil and haven't looked back

Yea I changed my stock one at 10k and about fell over when I saw it. I think I am going to do a GDP up front and a Baldwin in back.

Is a secondary water separator really needed? Besides performance, is the amount of water the stock filter misses harmful? As long as rust or freezing does not take place a little water can clean thinks up.

I wish I had saved a picture from another thread that had rust in the fuel rail and tubes.
Water & steel is never a good thing. As the rust flakes off it goes to the injector nozzles. That's a bad thing.

I bought a set up for mine as I was short on time before a road trip. $200 later and I'm filtering the heck out of it with a 97% emulsified water separator and 3 um filter.
I'm sure my factory filter looks almost new. But I do like the added insurance of the factory filter as the last line of defense.

Mopar severe duty filtration kit, have had one on my 12 since new, definitely well worth it, if your gonna keep the truck.

Is it a pretty straight forward install?

This was a very wise move. I get the same results with my filtration. I use a Baldwin water separator and Donaldson fuel filter on my Airdog.

63boxtop do you have a write on how to make this secondary filter system? Or is it a kit you bought

I just made the bracket to get sandwiched between the existing factory bracket and bolted it in and then used the fleetguard filter bases and assembled some fittings and grabbed some hose and that was it.

I grabbed most stuff at my local heavy duty truck service center but got all the info on a previous tread on here from AH64ID Its about 400-500 post long though so take some time and read up to educate yourself and then go from there for what you need for what ever the final outcome for your truck may be
