Terrible MPG's

I have a 2007 5.9L Mega Cab 4wd, 6"lift sittin on 35's. I have 5" exhaust with AFE intake. Everything else is stock. It has 40,000 miles on it. I am averaging 13mpg around town and then towed my toy hauler this past weekend. I averaged 5mpg towing at 65mph from Phx to Glamis, CA. Do anyone have suggestion's on why I'm getting such bad fuel mileage. No engine light on.

The lift and the tires are killing you, though I would not expect 5 towing. how big of a toy hauler do you have 13 empty seems about right for the lift and tires.

Its a 23ft Gearbox, fully loaded with about 9,000lbs
I have dave Matthews efi on my 07.5 6.7. Its lifted 6" with 37s. I seriously get 16s on the highway. Its taken a couple retunes to get it there. But I couldn't be happier with my mileage.

How fast where you running? I would expect 10-12 when towing on flat ground. How did your RPM sound? It kind of sounds like torque converter/clutch slipping under heavy load.

13 city doesn't seem that far off. I do 15-16 with a manual around phx.

5!! As said some tuning would help it out some…Assuming you've got 4:10's?
I've got 33s on my dually and unloaded it seems I'm always at 14.5 mixed. Towing I was 10-12, and that's a 38ft 5th wheel. I just swapped to a 6spd, so I'm curious what the difference will be.

Towing you sound off, but not a whole lot on normal driving.

funny i was looking at my headsup this morning and it says 17mpg, im interested to see if i get better on the hwy, i got a 03 dually 3500
I think tuning and a smaller lift are about the only things that will help, or driving 55... But who wants to do that
I had 17mpg before my computer programmer crashed. Now I'm down to 9... I'm ordering injectors and a turbo in an attempt to get up to 19.

torque converter is dyeing maybe. Not slipping empty but is when you are loaded, Is it locking up ? you have it in Tow/haul ? or does the 07 have that ?

Not the infamous Obama-meter. The meter is useless for measuring mileage I've seen my say anything from 16-23 when my actual hand calculated was 15-16.

Injector or injectors going bad!
I thought of that too until I saw he only had 40,000 miles then I thought maybe not haha.
Ok I was running 65-70mph. It has 3.73 gears, and the trans is 4speed auto (48RE). I ran in Tow Haul Mode and it was hard to find that happy medium with the transmission.
I have an extended warranty so I was worried about putting a programmer or tuner on it. I hand calculated everything. It had the power and I wasn't seeing any extra black smoke coming out. How do I check to see if the torque converter is going bad?
Start by checking fluid color and smell.
