I posted earlier about a tapping sound and had several replies that it is normal. As luck would have it, it is getting louder. For about the first 20 minutes of driving I get noise (above the normal injector sound) that really sounds just like a valve tap. It follows RPMs and is most pronounced around 1,500. Not rattle or clatter...a clear valve tap sound. Only have 7k miles and now find myself pissed every morning...mostly pissed that I have limited confidence in my dealer. Also, not the DEF pump as I hear that separately. Anyone else having tapping getting louder with the cold temps?

Well i will say my motor is alot louder now that we have been hitting low 30s. Very noticable increase in noise. I cant pinpoint it to just a tapping its noisy on all levels. But sounds no different then any diesel i work around everyday when we start hitting lower temps.

Well, if you don't want to take it to a dealer, are you willing to pay for the repair?

Could be something simple like needing the valve clearance adjusted, this is part of the maintenance schedule, but not until 150K.

Were it mine, I'd find a dealer I was willing to take it to.
