Gentlemen- help please. Got a 98.5 2500. has 5.9 .only mod is bully dog. Just use it as a bull hauler, and it's a good one.. only has 225,000 miles on it! bought a few years ago, don't know if the injection pump has ever been changed...if I leave it overnight or a few hours, it sometimes takes a long time cranking before it will kick. If I shut it off and then crank it up within a few minutes, it will kick off just fine...usually. When it does, it runs like a top at idle speeds. Sometimes when hauling heavy load, it will lose power all of a sudden, and my boost will go to zero, then it will pick right back up. don't know if that's related, i've heard that sometimes that is air filter (i have to change them quite regularly as i do alot of dirt road driving). turbo is not siezed. have changed fuel filter and air filter twice. I can hear the pickup pump, but it just doesn't seem to be getting fuel. Do I just jump right at the injection pump? or is there maybe a fuel leak, or a crack in a line somewhere I can't find? i'm about to burn my starter up.... HELP!!!!

first of all, the starters on our trucks are "strong like bull", no worry about burin it up...

to the problem:

get it read for codes at Auto Zone or O'reily's, and, check all yer fuel lines to see if ya have leaks

could just be the craptastic stock lp diein, which WILL kill the VP if not upgraded quick...:doh:

nice word..."craptastic". thanks for the quick reply...i do more work on John deere than I do trucks...I just don't wanna have to get into anything too major if I don't have to. $$$$$ are harder to come by these days.

Like cmns2500 said get the codes read or you'll have to get even more $$$$ to fix it.

Not sure but dont skimp on a lp, just shell out the $ for a good one the first time. Fass, Airdog, Raptor or Fuel boss are top choices.

also, i forgot...having huge amounts of air pressure when I open fuel tank...indicative of the same problem?
you mean, like a big wooooossh comin outta the tank when you open up the cap? that can't be good...:confused013:

you lp has been out a while? lots of problems...... well there could be a few more things to it then. is there any noticeable seepage around the injector lines? did you put the o-ring back on the fuel filter housing? if nothing else you need to get that lp changed if it doesn't work. i have been through 2 pumps and on my third. that's about $2500 in cash gone. i don't think you have a problem with the ip though.

i had an issue several months ago...lost ALOT of diesel out of an injector line...just backed off. was on a long haul across Texas, and finally got it back together. wondering if it might be seeping some. have checked the oring on filter housing twice. it does have a water cleanout valve. i had wondered if that hadn't sealed properly. i guess it's an aftermarket deal..it's plastic with a valve on it, with the weatherpack connector on the bottom which plugs in to the bully dog. mechanic said something about leakage at the tank. is there a sump screen or something or a check valve which may be presenting a problem? could the excess pressure from diesel cap be preventing return to tank?
