They ARE the same. The only time they were different was in 2003 and 2004 when the tri light was in the tailgate on the dually's

Yep, the same. I had to buy a new tailgate - long story, but I got a a '09 1500 tailgate (gen4) and put it on my '12 2500. New paint and it was "new again".
