My tail gate doesn't seem to want to stay latched. I'll be just driving around town and it will just fall down. Is there an adjustment I can do? Or any other suggestions? Thanks

On both sides of the latch mechanism on the sides of the tail gate there is a spring and small retainer (couple inches long, that is attached to it. I end up pushing the driver side towards the front of the truck and the passenger side toward the rear and it latches. I have tried using WD-40 and oil on the spring and the they still won't want to spring back to their correct position.
