considering buying a super 40 for my truck. its not going to be no 500 hp screamer, just a great towing truck. is the link to this chinese knockoff have the same specs as the super 40? i havent found any decent info on the super 40 other than some claiming it has this and other say its this... stock 215hp injectors with 035 dvs and pump work, 4k gvs rack plug, 60lb springs, head ported a1000 fuel pump with built trans and a low stall triple disk converter. will the 40 be enough or should i just spend the money and get an s300? no racing just decent street and definately towing for mud races this year. thanks in advance

You may find it a tad laggy for towing with the 16cm turbine housing, IMO...I would just go with an S300G or A3K. If you find a used one of either of those you'll be all set, that is if you're looking to spend similar to what was at the link you posted. An HX35/40 hybrid would also work.

I don't blame you, Chinese stuff is questionable. The specs they have listed there seems the same as HX40.
A3K is slightly smaller, but much more aggressive. It'll spool much better, too. Same with the Super B.

Not off hand, sorry. Watch the classifieds on here and ebay, etc. S300 or the 40 will probably be easier to find.

Ive been looking pretty hard at the Super 40 also. Ive heard guys love them for towing. A shop in Colorado says theyve put them on several pickups around there and they havent had any complaints. My question is does the Super 40 have a bigger shaft. Ive heard the 40's are kinda famous for breakin them. And What are the specs on a Super 40? Ive heard alot of numbers but which ones are right?

i believe it is a 60/65/16
:agree2:

I run a Super40. It has the same lag as the HX35/16cm I removed. There were no other changes when the turbo was swaped.

The Super 40's run an extended tip intake wheel. That china knock off most likely doesn't. If you notice they don't post pic's of the intake wheels for some reason.

The HX40 line up uses the same shaft as the HX35 uses. The rumors of broken shafts were caused by sled pullers over boosting the turbo and dumping off the throttle at the end of a pull. A HX40 is designed for 40 PSI. Some pullers were pushing 60 PSI out of them. Dropping to idle with that much boost. Would break the shafts.

I was going to suggest Piersdiesel for the HX40 but they don't have it listed anymore. Maybe give them a call.

PDR Diesel Performance

Like I mentioned before you can always buy the Super 40 compressor and put it on your stock turbo, maybe swap turbines as well...
An HX40 will work fine for towing, I was just trying to make the point earlier that the quickest spooling is usually best for towing IMO.

The PDR HX40 is listed as a Super. It is not PDR sells a 6 blade intake wheel HX40. Here is a link with flow charts for the standard HX40's. The 6 and 8 blade wheels are classed as standard.

http://www.myholsetturbo.com/images/holsetpartnumbers_2008.pdf

If you look that link over it also has the holset number for the Super 40.

I picked my 40 up from HTT. They have sence stoped selling 40's. They are on the website still. As soon as you ask about one they start trying to sell you a S300. Its kind of a bait and switch item.

I thought a 6 blade comp was a Super 40? You know your HX40s better than me  :S:

Are you talking about this one from HTT?

H-Charger 40 - Turbochargers by High Tech Turbo, Inc

$1900 seems pretty steep for one of those...I guess it makes it easier to get people to buy S300 like you said.
It seems to me it was a lot easier to get a 40 five or six years ago...in fact I had one that I got for a buddy off Kijiji, $300 basically new. It was removed from a new crate engine because the wastegate actuator was bent. 6 blade, 18cm turbine housing. My friend never even ran it, he re-sold it for $600. All it needed was a new wastegate or a 16cm housing with a wastegate on it.

Untill the extended tip 40's came out. A lot of people called the 6 blade 40's Supers.

WOW its been a while sence I seen a price on a super 40. Talk about sticker shock.

Someone mentioned about getting a 7 blade wheel and housing and swaping onto a HX35. That won't work. You need the 65mm exhaust wheel also. The balance is different on the 7 blade wheel.

I mentioned the compressor upgrades from Gillett Diesel...but I think they sell a 6 or 8 blade. What do you mean the balance is off if you use a 7 blade? Like it's too big for the HX35 turbine wheel?
I can tell you when I put the 60mm H1E wheel (8 blade) on my WH1C it sure barked a lot...

Sorry to jack this guy's thread, but sometimes I find this kind of banter brings up some good info when I'm reading around the forums.

1900 bucks is insane for a super 40. I have a shop in colorado that does pump, injector and turbo work on all kinds of diesel engines and they quoted me 950 new.
