I searched and only found threads on the horn honking in reverse and seat belt chime, but this isn't it. Every once in a while when I turn my truck off and then open the door, the door chime starts going off and won't stop. This is unusual because it normally never does this. Also when I close my door and it's chiming, my remote won't work. In the past I've been able to turn the key on and off or on to all the way back and it stops, but this time it won't stop. It is bugging the hell out of me and I don't know what the deal is?

I'm not sure but bout the diesels but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it may be a short in the headlight chime. They should be one in the same and if you open the door with the truck off and headlights on it'll chime see what you can do about trying to bypass it and see if it stops it if not you can rule that out.

Have you tried starting the truck? Mine starting doing that right after I bought it. But when ever it happened, I also couldn't start the truck. It would also shut the instrument cluster/radio/foglights on and off as I drove down the road. After 5 trips to the dealer they finally replaced my TIPM and that took care of it. It seemed to happen more whenever it was humid or wet out.:confused013:

It will start fine. I just found out that whichever key I use to start it, after I shut it off that remote won't work but the other one will. Basically if I use key A to start the truck, when I turn it off key A buttons don't work but key B does and vise versa. Maybe it has something to do with my Triple Dog?

I had a problem like that with my truck (dakota) it was due to the aftermarket remote starter and alarm I had installed. Have you had the truck since new?? Does or did it have an aftermarket alarm/lock/remote start on it?

No I got it used, and it doesn't have an alarm or anything. I'm about to go unplug the batteries for a while and reset everything and see if that works.

I finally found out what it was! My ignition switch, $12 part. We thought about the symtoms for a while and figured out the truck thought the key was still in there, that's why when I would take the key out the remote would not work, windows would roll down, radio stayed on, etc. As I came to this conclusion, one of my dad's master tech's walked by and I explained my scenario. Right away he said, "Ignition switch?" Sure enough, we messed with it and he nailed it on the head. I replaced it and no more problems. I hope this helps someone down the road! Thanks again for all the input.

Satan's Chariot,

Thanks for the useful info. I've had the same problem for two years and have been just "wiggling" my key and it's been shutting it off. Recently I left for two weeks and when I came back and the battery was dead. I figured it was the ignition switch, but never had time to properly diagnose it. Now it's time to dig in. How difficult was the swap?

Dave
