Strange creaking noise from dash??

12682 Views 32 Replies 23 Participants Last post by  hurleysurf2188
Never thought much of it but its finally driving me nuts. Ive had the truck 2.5 years and seems like when i use the heater or defrost and shut the truck off sometimes theres a brief creaking noise that comes from what seems like the whole dash. Its been doing it as long as i can remember. Was curious to know if anyone else has this strange noise? Everything functions as it should. Is it just normal expanding and contracting?

I also get weird noises from my dash area, glad to know its not just me
I get that too on my '12. It sounds kind of like a vent closing in the dash or something. Doesn't happen all the time though...
Good to know theres atleast two more besides myself. Sounds like scraping a piece of plastic against another or almost bending or stretching a piece of plastic. As long as someone else is experiencing it ill continue to be okay with it haha

My 2012 Laramie 3500 is a creaker too.
Mine does the same thing and I am pretty sure it has done it since day 1.
Count me in. Seems to be common problem.
:ditto:

Ya most 6.7 engines do. The tolerances are so tight in these engines that they seem to squeak until they work in...my '12 is at 60, 000kms and only does it once or twice a month now...used to be every time.
Hope this helps.

i honestly dont think its the motor as ive had my hood open and got the girlfriend to shut the truck off and it still does it inside with no noise in the engine bay

May be talking about two diff noises. Mine is my engine. It squeaks when I turn it off just before the engine comes to a stop. Hope you figure it out.

This noise definitely comes from the dash im talkin about. I only notice it on days i use the heat or the rare occasion i use the air. Its gotta be something with the vents

I get all kinds of shaking rattling noise when I turn off the engine, that's pretty normal on a diesel.

The noise I get from the dash right after shutdown really sounds like something in the HVAC system though.

Oh well, if I wanted a quiet car I'd get a Lexus! :hehe:

Hmm, I've never heard that type of noise yet, will keep my ears open.
My '12 3500 Laramie does it too. Thought I was the only one

Count me in the creaker club. It happens when I use the heat for awhile.

The chirp you hear from the engine on shut down is the turbo (I thought).
