Don't give it the spicy nacho. :p Sorry, someone had to say it. I'd venture to say if you truly mean driving it like normal, then it should hold just fine. Not that an EL really gives it that much pep anyways.

I'd advise against it. Stock trans is good for like 150hp...the truck makes 235 stock! I'm just jaded I guess

Forgive my naivety, I'm a newb. Just got a 99 a couple months ago, but why in the world would Dodge put such a weak tranny behind the Cummins?
I wanted to get Edge Juice w/Attitude and go to level 1 maybe 2 and ppl r saying it might overpower the tranny. However, I want to get the EJw/A more for the ability to monitor things.
Just shocked at Dodge putting in something so weak.

the 47re isnt a terrible tranny for stock levels, little weak but thats what dodge had to put in the truck.

you have to remember even on lvl 2 the edge will add ~%25 more horse power over stock. thats a ton of power that engineer's didnt plan on.

as diesel owners we tend to forget how easy it is to add a ton of power over stock.

it might and it might not. it just depends on the shape of the tranny.
It has an oversized cooler, deep pan, temp guage. I just got the truck and it is unknown if any of the internals are upgraded. What does a stock TC look like? Valve bodies? Ive only ever had five and six speeds

under the tranny on the bellhousing isnt good enough?

go out to your truck and crawl under it. you will see a cover on the bottom of the bell housing. pull that will. allow you to see the tc.

Curious about Trans rebuild / HP output

I just bought a 98.5 2500/5.9 24 valve . I bought it knowing the trans was bad , it is being rebuilt as we speak . The shop is building it as much as my wallet will allow .
1.) Billet single disc torque converter
2.) New clutches ( heavy duty I suppose )
3.) Re-working the valve body ( increased line pressure )
4.) Other trans lingo that I really don't understand

I was told that this set up would hold about 350 hp ? Are there any other things or parts I should ask about or put on / Truck is a DD and wanting mild power , will put a FASS 150 and a edge juice with attitude CTS on it after the first of the year , it already has a 5 inch MBRP turbo back exhaust .
Is there anyway to know if you have performance injectors installed without breaking the motor down ? ( prob a dumb question , just didn't know if there was a easy way )
Thanks in advance for your help , I'm new to the Cummins . I have had 2 Powerstrokes , but I have heard that the Cummins is the way to go !!!

Not sure on what parts they are using , I know I couldn't afford a triple disc TC right now , I'm thinking it will be a basically stock tranny with a few heavy duty components . I took it to the shop and told them my price range to get it back going . They said they have done a couple like this and they hold up fine as long as you don't get stupid while driving it . I wish I would have done a little more research before they started .
But I got the truck for $3500.00 so I think it was a good deal , but after reading on these trucks the tranny is the weak point . I wanted to do it right the first time . If it doesn't hold up I will invest in a built trans from Suncoast or another manufacturer , there are just so many options and things you can do to these trucks . It can be a little overwhelming
