Hello all,

I iust purchased a 2012 2500. I have noticed the past few days I have been feeling a popping through the steering wheel and both pedals when driving at low speeds. Its not loud and mainly something I feel. I feel it over small bumps and nothing over big bumps, and it seems more pronounced when turning to the left but its hard to tell.

I have crawled underneath the truck and had someone turn the steering wheel and it seems like theres a little play in the track bar, but I dont know if its normal or not. I tried tightening it but obviously I need a cheater bar lol.

Another thing, I can reach down and wiggle the steering shaft and there's a little play, also when I twist it back and forth I can feel a little popping in that aswell. Could this be the culprit?

Thanks for your time guys

yup, no play in the trackbar, control arms, ball joints, tie rods, etc...a lil bit of play in the drag links is ok on full lock though...so long as the ball isn't jumping out of the socket

After driving it more today its definitely more noticeable through the floor board and pedals, at low speed on bumpy roads whenever the body sways.

After looking at the track bar bolts they dont even screw in far enough to protrude through the nut on the other side. Ill get a cheater bar tomorrow and give it a whirl. Hopefully that's what it is.

prolly not i hate to say bud...you can either get a new bar from the dealer, replacement bushings from various places...or the thuren track bar...

anyway, feeling in the feet tends to be a control arm...the upper goes into the frame right about where your left foot sits

Grease the splined part?
Ya pull the rubber boot off and grease the splines, Ive done it on the truck but its much better to pull it off. The OEM track bar bushings do have some deflection in them and a aftermarket track bar such as the previous one mentioned is a great upgrade but normally when track bars wear you get a clunk when turning , if you feel it in the pedals and wheel over bumps then its usually the steering shaft.

Even a brand new aftermarket track bar will have 1/16" of deflection in the bushings, OEM is more.

Well there is no downside to pulling the steering shaft and greasing it, plus its free sooo id give it a shot! Dont get me wrong it could be the truck bar, Ive found a the track bar will be one solid clunk where the steering shaft is more little taps that no one else in the truck could hear.

Hey guys I'm getting some thick grease tomorrow and I'm going to grease up the steering shaft, from the symptoms I've been reading I'm almost positive that will fix it.

I also saw the thread about the body mounts, and will give that a go next.
